The 2009 NBA mock draft is a tricky thing, as several teams have changed which direction they might be going on 2009 NBA Draft night, but with a lot of talent in the field, it could definitely be interesting how things turn out. This is a mock draft of what might take place during the lottery picks of the 2009 NBA Draft. Be sure to tune in to the AC Live NBA Draft Blog during draft day to see up to the minute selections.
2009 NBA Mock Draft
1. L.A. Clippers — Blake Griffin
The Clippers need talent, and Blake Griffin is the most talented player in the draft. Look for the Oklahoma power forward to be drafted first, and for the Clippers to get him signed to a contract as soon as they possibly can.
2. Memphis Grizzlies — Hasheem Thabeet
It has been rumored that Ricky Rubio won’t sign with Memphis, and that leaves them the choice to get big or go for a scorer. Look for Memphis to draft the 7 foot 3 inch center from Connecticut, and for him to quickly become a force in the middle.
3. Oklahoma City Thunder — James Harden
Look for the Thunder to surprise the draft day analysts and to go with James Haden out of Arizona State. The shooting guard looks to be a real talent, and someone that the Thunder could put right into a rotation.
4. Sacramento Kings — Ricky Rubio
The Kings probably aren’t a team that Rubio wants to go to, but if he falls here, that is who they will draft. The international point guard could be an NBA star, but only time will tell if he actually signs to play in the NBA.
5. Washington Wizards — Jordan Hill
This is the best big man left on the board, and the Wizards will take him in order to make sure that they have a strong inside presence. Hill can be the stopped that they need to stop the bleeding on defense.
6. Minnesota Timberwolves — Jrue Holiday
The UCLA point guard could be a great choice for the Kings, though they actually need a lot of work at many different positions, but this could help them out the most.
7. Golden State Warriors — Brandon Jennings
Look for the Warriors to jump at the chance to take Jennings from Italy, and set up another good point guard in the line-up
8. New York Knicks — Stephen Curry
The Knicks will get the steal of the draft with Curry, who could lead all rookies in scoring in the 2009-2010 season.
9. Toronto Raptors — Tyreke Evans
The Raptors are just going to draft the best on the board at this point, and they need a lot of work.
10. Milwaukee Bucks — DeMar DeRozan
DeRozan could fit the Bucks nicely, and with some open offensive touches, could see a lot of shots in their new offense.
11. New Jersey Nets — Terrence Williams
The guard from Louisville could give the Nets some great defense, and maybe stop the bleeding a bit so that they can feed the ball through Vince on offense again.
12. Charlotte Bobcats — Gerald Henderson
How can Charlotte pass up a Duke stand-out at this point in the draft. They can’t.
13. Indiana Pacers — Ty Lawson
Lawson could give the Pacers an extremely quick man at the point, and could prove an interesting fit in the rotation that needs a lot of work in the next season.
14. Phoenix Suns — B.J. Mullens
Look for the Suns to try and score another big man to come off the bench behind their current line
