Coffee Filters are not just for making coffee. Since they are made to withstand hot water and weight, you know they are durable. This means they can withstand a lot of things, meaning there are many other ways you can use these things. If you catch them on sale, you can get a lot for a decent price, which is always great.
Alternative use for Coffee Filters #1- Microwave Protector- If you heat soup and other things up with your microwave in a bowl then you know when it heats up, it splats everywhere. If you take a coffee filter and place it upside down, it will cover the entire bowl and you will have no mess. After your done heating simply throw it in the trash.
Alternative use for Coffee Filters #2- Flowerpots- If you love to plant flowers in flower pots then you know the ones with the holes in the bottom of the pot can become a pain. When you start adding the soil, its seems like half the soil comes out of the holes in the bottom. If you place a coffee filter at the bottom, before you add the soil you won’t have that problem. Coffee filters are meant to filter out water, so your water will still come out if needed and your soil will stay in place.
Alternative use for Coffee Filters #3-Windows- Most restaurants will use this trick, so next time you go out to eat and you see someone cleaning, take a look at what they are using. When I managed a restaurant this is what we used on most of the glass surfaces that needed to look really clean. Simply use a coffee filter in place of your paper towel when cleaning windows. It will create a better shine, leave fewer streaks and no fuzz will be left behind.
Alternative use for Coffee Filters #4- Oil- If you are the type of cook who likes to reuse their cooking oil, then you should invest in coffee filters. Use the coffee filter as a strainer and run the grease through it. Of course you may need to line the coffee filter on something. I have seen people use the coffee filter as a liner in a smaller strainer. This catches everything before it goes through the normal strainer.
Alternative use for Coffee Filters #5- Popsicles- Summer is just around the corner so that means ice creams and popsicles will become a wanted treat once again. While most of the time when my kids have popsicles they are outside playing, so I don’t really care much about the mess, since they are going to need a bath anyway, sometimes I don’t want them messy. If they want a Popsicle and I don’t want them to ruin their clothes, then simply place a coffee filter onto the stick part of the Popsicle stick and it will act as a drip catcher.
