Business casual seems to be the current style of dress for many business employees. Even so, accumulating an extensive wardrobe can be costly and time consuming because styles do change. So, whether you are a man or woman looking for a way to maximize your wardrobe, follow these simple rules:
Buy several pair of neutral-colored slacks. Body weight tends to fluctuate, so get the most use out of the pants that you have before you find yourself in a different size. Even if your weight does not fluctuate, why spend more than you have to on slacks? All you have to do is keep on hand a pair (or two) of slacks in each of the following colors: black, gray, and khaki. You can then match up just about any shirt/blouse (print or solid) with one of these pairs of slacks. A new shirt/blouse equals a new outfit. This can also help on laundry if you feel that you can safely wear a pair of slacks twice without giving off body odor.
Keep matching shoes for the neutral slacks. Make sure that you keep a pair of shoes to match each different color of slacks. For instance, you will need black shoes for your black slacks, gray shoes for your gray slacks (black may work), and brown shoes (or lighter, such as tan) for your khaki-colored slacks. Not only will matching your shoes to your slacks help with your outfit looking different, it will also help with making you looker taller and more slender.
Hold on to a few neutral-colored belts. You can always use belts to add a new dash to an already-used look. Be sure, though, to stay away from printed belts. These are harder to match with your clothing.
Purchase neutral-colored blazers. Try to build up a collection of neutral-colored blazers that you can wear year round. Corduroy is always good as far as look, but can you really wear this type of blazer year round? Adding a blazer to a business casual look can help dress you up for a formal event at a moment’s notice.
Be on the look out for colorful shirts/blouses. Not every piece of our wardrobe has to be neutral. Shirts/blouses are where you can really add personality to your wardrobe. Fun prints and colors can add pizazz, while the neutral colors paired with these can help keep you from looking outlandish. As well, when styles change, it will cost less to replace shirts/blouses that it will to replace other clothing articles. Too, you can shop the sales to spruce up your wardrobe with new shirts/blouses throughout the year. Altogether, shirts/blouses cost less, making these items fairly replaceable.
