I love trying out different brands and flavors of cold cereal! Recently, I spotted General Mills Basic 4 Cereal in the cereal section of my local grocery store! This cereal has whole grain, fruits and nuts in it! I could not wait to try this product out and write a product review about it! Here is what I discovered!
I decided to purchase General Mills Basic 4 Cereal when I discovered that it had brown sugar, raisins, dried cranberries, almonds and whole grain oats in it! I love those ingredients and they are very healthy ones for me to add to my morning breakfast diet! I like many General Mills cereal products and I felt confident in trying this product and writing a review about what I discovered! This product has many important nutritional facts about it! One serving has two hundred calories, it contains one gram of saturated fat, it has fiber in it and also iron. Vitamins A, D, B 6 and B12 are also in this cereal. I liked all of those facts and ingredients. This product seemed like a good cereal to start morning with!
General Mills Basic 4 Cereal is not very sweet, I must admit! That was my first impression about this cereal. I had to add sugar to it for it to be tasty. If you like sweet cereal, you may want to keep that fact in mind. Once I sweetened this cold cereal to my taste, it did taste much better. There are lots of crunchy almonds, raisins and dried cranberries in this cereal. I appreciated that, but still, the cereal seemed to be lacking something. It has a strong whole grain taste to it and I think that only sugar added helped tone this taste down a bit, in my opinion.
I did feel that this was a healthy cereal choice. It provided me with many vitamins and minerals like calcium, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, folic acid, phosphorus, magnesium and zinc, just to name a few. Still, this product was not as great tasting as I had imagined that it would be. That was a let down and disappointment. I think some other dried fruits should be added to this cereal to give a more fruity and sweeter taste. The price of General Mills Basic 4 Cereal is not bad. It is very comparable to most cereals. I got a one pound or sixteen ounce box for under four dollars. Each box has eight servings in it. That is affordable and a pretty good bargain, in my opinion, for a name brand cold cereal.
I rate General Mills Basic 4 Cereal three and one half stars out of five stars. I felt like something was missing from this cold cereal, taste wise. Still, it was not bad and when it is sweetened, it is alright. The advertising on the front of this cereal box says that it is a delicious blend of tangy fruits, crunchy almonds and a variety of wholesome grains. While this is true, I would have appreciated another fruit or two being added to this cereal, to really make it special.
General Mills Basic 4 Cereal has two hundred and forty calories in each serving, with skim milk. Only twenty of these calories are from fat. One serving has two grams of total fat, one gram of saturated fat, zero grams of trans fat, one half gram of polyunsaturated fat, one half gram of monounsaturated fat, zero mgs of cholesterol, three hundred and twenty mgs of sodium, one hundred and sixty mgs of potassium, forty-three grams of total carbs, three grams of dietary fiber, fourteen grams of sugars, twenty-six grams of other carbs and four grams of protein.
The three grams of dietary fiber in each serving is nice to add to a daily breakfast. I just wish this cereal had more sweet fruit in it. You can find General Mills Basic 4 Cereal in the cereal section of most grocery stores that you shop at! I did enjoy trying this product and writing a product review about it!
