A St. Patrick’s Day craft, game, and dessert will have your children all excited about this holiday.
We will start your kids off with an easy craft: St. Patrick’s Day hats. Then we’ll lead them off onto an adventurous hidden pot of gold, and last we’ll be making a yummy treat they can enjoy at the end of their day. The first thing to do is to get them started making their decorative St. Patties hats. This is a craft that is cheap and easy to make. This can also be a great craft to do if you are a teacher or leader of a group of children. They will love dressing up in their very own St. Patrick’s Day hat (which they have made) and celebrating the holiday.
Items they will need for the hats: Green and white card stock or construction paper, crayons, markers, glue stick, scissors, stapler, little shamrocks or green and gold jewels or beads they can glue onto their hats.
Step 1. Cut 3″ strips of green and white paper; one of each color for the number of children, plus a few extra.
Step 2. Give each person one white and one green strip, let them decorate and color St. Patties day decorations and designs on them.
( While they are decorating their strips, take the chocolate gold coins and put them into a pot. Then take your pot of gold and hide it. Next, cut out six or seven four-leaf clovers. On the backs of each clover write a clue to where the next clover will be until they have found the pot of gold. Drop the clovers around for them to find.)
Now back to the decorating of the hats!
Step 3. After the decorations are dry, wrap the green strip around their head to measure where to staple it for the right fit. Then staple the strip together.
Step 4. Take the white strip and staple one end to the inside of the green strip and staple the other end of the white strip to the inside of the other edge of the green strip (so it is going across the top of the head).
Now you can have them put on their St. Patrick’s Day hats, and it’s off to find that hidden pot of gold!
Lead your children (or group) to the first four leaf clover cutout that you have laid down. When they have finished finding all of the clues and located the pot of gold, bring them back into the kitchen to make their yummy treat.
