After watching Adam Lambert’s performance of Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones last night, Adam Lambert officially surpassed Danny Gokey to become the most overrated American Idol of season 8. And if the voting audience votes Adam Lambert into the Top 12, Lambert will likely be on his way of becoming the most overrated American Idol ever.
American Idol Adam Lambert sang last during the Group 2 show. No surprise there since the Idol producers often give the last spot to the most overrated American Idol contestants. And as usual, Paula Abdul was on her feet gushing over him before he began screeching out Satisfaction.
After singing Satisfaction, Paula Abdul said she felt she was at an Adam Lambert concert rather than an American Idol show. I love Paula Abdul, but that was a bit of a stretch even for someone who doesn’t always make a lot of sense. Exaggerated comments lend themselves to becoming the most overrated American Idol.
Judge Randy Jackson said he was “da bomb” and compared him to Edward Cullen. I assume Randy Jackson was speaking of the fictional character, played by actor Robert Pattinson, from the movie Twilight when he made the comparison. No way is American Idol Adam Lambert an Edward Cullen. Edward Cullen comes off mysterious and slightly dangerous. Adam Lambert just comes off as wearing too much makeup. When you can’t live up to comparisons, you are overrated.
The newest American Idol judge Kara said Adam Lambert had a crazy range, and she was going to ignore how dramatic he was. Ignoring how dramatic he was is like ignoring Nick Norman’s attempt at comedy. You can’t do it. I listened to all the American Idol contestants again and only listened to the audio. Parts of his Satisfaction performance sounded as silly as Nick Norman’s performance. If you don’t believe me, listen for yourself.
And Kara is right; Adam Lambert’s range is crazy. But it’s not crazy in a good way. I would rather listen to the underrated Jesse Langseth sing in a limited range, than someone singing high enough to make my ears bleed. Range is overrated when it isn’t pleasing to the ears.
Simon Cowell said parts of his performance was brilliant. Simon is always calling American Idols out for being hotel and cruise singers. Apparently, Simon hasn’t been to many bars where tribute bands play or he would have realized that you can see that overrated performance most nights of the week. There’s nothing brilliant about that.
What makes Adam Lambert the most overrated American Idol, though, is he does not seem genuine. His background in musical theater is too apparent. Adam Lambert comes across as someone playing a part. There are enough fake, overrated Idols in America already. Do we really want another?
