It’s finally over. American Idol has a winner for 2009 and his name is Kris Allen. On May 20, American Idol had a star-studded shebang with enough musical guest stars to have a telethon. The American Idol party was so enjoyable, most Idol fans let their anticipation for the name of the winner wane just a little.
Was “No Boundaries” the deciding factor that drove America to phone in just under 100 million votes to crown Allen the 2009 American Idol? It’s very possible. Some American Idol fans got their drawers in a bunch with Kara DioGuardi’s “No Boundaries” being forced upon the remaining two American Idol contestants to sing on May 19. Adam Lambert was almost able to pull it off, but Kris Allen struggled big time with the song.
A lot of American Idol fans are still fuming over the fact that Lambert did not win American Idol. This writer’s 12-year-old daughter cried for more than an hour before she was able to go to sleep on May 19. The next morning, she was crying in her cereal, truly distraught that Lambert was not the American Idol. She needed to know that although Lambert was not named American Idol, his star quality will guarantee him a place in Rock and Roll paradise. She also needed to know that Allen was truly just as talented as Lambert and deserved the American Idol title, even though he would never be on the “Is it live, or is it Memorex?” commercial. Every great singer is special in their own way.
The ginormous American Idol theater and stage were massively impressive and the audience was packed like a can of sardines. Even more impressive was the musical guest list, who summoned every emotion imaginable from viewers. From heartbreak to happiness to memories of our younger days, the American Idol shindig had a little something for everyone.
Among the musical stars that shined on the American Idol finale stage on May 20 were David Cook, Queen Latifah, Jason Mraz, Keith Urban, Fergie, The Black-Eyed Peas, Cyndi Lauper, Lionel Richie, KISS, Carlos Santana, Steve Martin, Rod Stewart and Queen. Was that a party or what? What more could an old lady ask for than Carlos Santana, Rod Stewart, KISS and Queen all in one place? Woo hoo! Thanks American Idol for the party and we can’t wait to see what musical talent will be discovered next year!
