Round two of “America’s Next Top Model” for Cycle 12 saw the beauties in the salon for those dreaded makeovers. Most of the girls took their changes in stride but, as always, there was one who couldn’t get beyond the haircut.
This time around is was Fo who threw the usual temper tantrum. However, she didn’t do it just the day of the makeover. Her tears continued during the photo shoot. Her attitude left a bad taste in the mouth of judge and photographer for the week, Nigel Barker. It also made Tyra question whether or not she had what it would take to become a successful model since that often included becoming whatever the client requires.
Aminat’s Afro loss seemed to affect her as well. Although she didn’t have a problem with the change into a long weave, she somehow managed to lose the punch she had previously. She struggled with the photo shoot and came precariously close to landing in the bottom two.
Celia commanded attention in the photo shoot even when she was just working in the background. Nigel admitted that he kept being drawn back to her. When it came time for her photo, she blew him away with one perfect pose after another.
Some of the girls struggled to “find the light” in spite of the fact that they held the lighting source in their own hands. Some of the girl’s expressions just came off weak. Others appeared lifeless and dull. Only a handful of the girls were able to deliver the fierce attitude that is expected from “America’s Next Top Model.”
Allison continued to shine. Her lightened blond hair accented her big eyes to perfection and definitely made her stand out in the crowd. London delivered an edgy, meaningful photo that the judges appreciated. But it was Teyona who drew every eye to her, ensuring her place as this week’s top model.
Fo and Jessica landed in the bottom two. The judges were discouraged by Fo’s attitude after the makeover and felt that Jessica was resting too much on being the “pretty” girl. In the end, they chose to give Fo one more chance to get her act together and sent Jessica packing.
Sandra continued to struggle with her own self importance, convincing herself of her talent in the house but unable to deliver when it came down to the wire. Her negative attitude turned more of her roommates off, making her isolated from any type of support.
It remains difficult to identify who might take the prize this year. There are some girls that stand out and others that you just want to root for. Tahlia, the burn survivor, could do a lot to change the idea of what is considered beautiful. Anyone with any heart at all can’t help but pull for her.
Allison’s quirky look is just adorable and it matches her humble, sweet personality. Wouldn’t the modeling world be better off with more Allisons in their ranks?
Celia, the oldest in the competition, is already a pro. She is willing to bend and mold herself into whatever the judges want. That kind of determination deserves to be rewarded.
Kortnie offers a second opportunity for a plus size model to break into the ranks. We normal, everyday women feel a need to pull for that.
There are others that certainly could break out of the bunch to take the win. I wouldn’t count out Teyona, London or Aminat either. These women definitely have something that needs to be explored.
I don’t, however, see Sandra, or Fo making it to the end. Sandra may not be humble enough. Fo may not understand what it takes to be a model.
The wild cards at the moment are Natalie and Nijah. Both seem to be holding back slightly. That could mean that, at some point, they will come out fighting. That could lead to some interesting television.
