If you’ve received an invitation to attend a wedding that will be held this summer, and are wondering what might be best to wear, you first have to take into consideration what type of wedding it will be. From Formal, to a beautiful ceremony held on the beach, you’ll want to choose your outfit carefully.
For a formal or ultra formal event, the dress you choose should be long, at least hitting mid-calf. You can choose a strapless or halter top type, or if you have toned arms and a decent tan, spaghetti strap tops are nice. For colors, since it’s a summer wedding, you may want to veer away from black, and chose a lighter shade, including red or pinks. It’s also acceptable to wear a two piece suit. They make very flattering ones now that would be plenty nice enough for a formal affair. Keep your jewelry simple. Too much is just too much, so select only a few piece’s of your favorite matching sets. One formal gown available is the “Kay Unger Lace Dress”. It is available at Saks.com; for the price of $365.
For a semi-formal ceremony, a good choice would be something similar to what you might wear to a cocktail party. Lace, embroidery, beading, or something made from a nice fabric that has “dazzle” is great. Knee length is more then acceptable for a semi-formal ceremony. for jewelry, again, keep it simple. Maybe something in a pastel color would be nice. There is a semi-formal dress available at eLUXURY; for the price of$340. It is called the “Nanette Lepore Tulsa Embroidery Slinky Dress”. (Fun name!)
For a casual wedding ceremony, you can dress a little more comfortably, as long as it’s not a bathing suit cover-up! Good choices for a casual or a beach setting, is anything colorful, possibly in a red or coral shade. You will want to choose flat sandals, (maybe jeweled) for a beach wedding ceremony. Might be best to pull your hair back in a stylish “do” also, due to the ocean breezes that may be blowing. A nice choice for a casual or beach wedding, is the “Donna Morgan Coral Matte” dress, available at Nordstrom.com, for the price of $118.
Lastly, for the super casual ceremony, (held in a back yard, public park or even a barn, which is becoming more and more popular), a nice pant suit is acceptable. If the invitation states that jeans are okay, then choose a pair that are comfy, along with a nice pair of sandals and a comfortable blouse, made of a cool material.Think about where the wedding is set – if it’s outside, you might want to avoid anything that will get caught in the wind. No dresses that tend to fly up and around you, if a bit of a breeze blows! Also, avoid high heeled shoes that will sink in the sand or in the possibly damp grass.
Two outfits I found that look nice for a super casual setting are a drape neck tunic shirt, (you can push the sleeves up), along with a pair of boot cut stretch jeans, both available at newport-news.com. The blouse is available for $29. The jeans for $39.
The second very casual outfit I found, is also available at the above web address. It is a gauzy blouse with smocked sleeves, available for $29, along with black, ultra slim fit jeans, priced at $39.
