Is it a good Idea to spend money on a trip with the way the current economy is going? Well, in a sense it is. The travel industry is struggling too and with that comes cheaper hotels, airfares and cruises. You can find some really great deals if you know where to look. Everyone in the travel industry is also trying to make a buck, which means there is more competition over your money right now than ever before. More competition in the travel industry equals better savings for you. Here are some great ways to get a great deal on traveling this summer.
The cruise industry took a hit this year and along with that hit comes savings. They dropped the $75 per person gas tax they had and lowered the price on almost every cruise. I have taken quite a few cruises over the past few years. I’m not getting into the pros and cons of each cruise line but I will say this if your looking for a cheap getaway to fabulous locations a cruise is for you. let me paint a picture, you can get a 7 day cruise to locations that include The Bahamas, Jamaica, Mexico, and the Virgin Islands to name a few for as low as $399 a person. Lets break that down, you get as many meals a day as you like. You are waited on hand and foot. You can participate in ship events and parties. You get to see multiple destinations and you get a cozy room to sleep in for less than 60 bucks a day. Try and find a self planned vacation cheaper and more exciting than this and I will commend you. The only real hidden fee to this is that you will have to drive to the port and this will be cheaper based on if you live on the coast. I live in the Midwest and it took me about $200 in gas to get to Jacksonville Florida and back in 2007. Gas prices have gone down a lot though and I didn’t mention I drive a 2005 Dodge Ram that gets a sad 14-15mpg. Shop around to find a Liner that caters to your interest and book a cruise, for some amazing fun, food, exotic locations and most of all savings.
The great outdoors can also offer a great way to spend your summer on a budget Camping is great in that you can spend what you want to. Besides food expenses and the one time fee of tents, sleeping bags and various other Camping supplies you really never have to spend a lot of money to have a good time. Camping offers many fun activities that you don’t have to spend a dime on including hiking, swimming, and spending time under the stars with a loved one. The location you choose to camp should suit your lifestyle but doesn’t have to be far away, there are great camping locations all over the country. Make sure you know the rates of the campsite, if there is a lot fee and what it will cost you to rent inner tubes or other watercraft, this will help you better plan your budget. As an avid camper, I can say that camping will give you a better appreciation for nature and bring you closer to those that you spend the trip with. Camping is probably one of the most fun and enjoyable experiences you can have an a tighter budget.
Do Something Locally
Who said you have to go very far to have a great time. A lot of people take for granted the amazing attractions right in their backyards. Heck, I live 20 miles from a six flags and haven’t been there in 5 years. Money you don’t have to spend on traveling is extra money in your pocket to have fun with. Lately my girlfriend and I have been traveling locally sometimes not going more than 100 miles away from home, visiting science centers, botanical gardens, parks, zoos and museums in other cities. You don’t even have to visit a big city to have fun, there are plenty of beautiful small towns with wineries, craft stores, cafes, and even hotels. Historic towns large or small are another great option and are usually littered with tours, gift shops and museums. If your looking for a more affordable way to travel this summer, its right outside your door.
