Bible scripture brings hope to those who study its pages, meditate upon its principles and put into practice the precepts they find there. Once they pursue a lifestyle of pursuing Bible scripture for life’s answers, the presence of hope emerges in their lives alongside a life of cheerfulness.
Connecting to the Bible Scripture Kind of Cheerfulness
I received an email about Nick Vujicic who travels all over the world and tells others about his many blessings. He has a witness of Christ in his life as he shares Bible scripture and cheerfulness in his heart without arms and legs. His intense struggle with these severe disabilities eventually brought him to a life of cheerfulness. “Life without limbs” (also the name of his website, www.livewithoutlimbs.org) didn’t prevent him from living a full life. At age 25, he has graduated from college with two degrees, his outlook is positive and he quotes Bible scripture to others because he studies the Bible. His cheerfulness is contagious when you look at his body that to him is normal but to the rest of us appears abnormal. Cheerfulness became a reality as he received the truth from Bible scripture that “a cheerful heart does good like medicine“.
For most of us this is an extreme example that reveals how powerful the medicine of cheerfulness can be to a person, especially a Christian who has accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior. If we are broken in spirit, we cannot offer the world a picture of Jesus living inside of us through the person of The Holy Spirit. To maintain a steady level of cheerfulness, it takes a steady diet of Bible scripture to ward off doubts that try to overtake us.
An Attitude of Cheerfulness
My steps are much lighter when my outlook is one of cheerfulness, thanksgiving and praise. I can’t be at my best when I am downcast about life. My pursuit of cheerfulness must be deliberate or it will evade me. If I have missed fellowship with God and avoided Bible scripture, it is much harder to stay in an attitude of cheerfulness. Once I decide to be enriched by cheerfulness by coming into God’s presence, He makes me laugh at my humanity and is not unhappy with me at all for messing up! He knows that if I am serious about living in cheerfulness I’ll dig in my heels and achieve excellence. “A cheerful heart does good like medicine, but a broken spirit makes one sick” (Proverbs 17:22) The Living Bible
Lord, may we always depend on you to bring us out of a broken spirit. Help us believe that it is possible to be cheerful in a world of sadness and remain in a constant state of hope as we depend on Bible scripture for every need. Amen.
