Flagler County is full of the hustle and bustle of everyday life making it a great place to enjoy some summer fun with the kids. Within Flagler County and surrounding areas such as Ormond Beach which is a short drive south and St. Augustine which is a short drive north there are plenty of budget friendly summer fun spots from kids. Fun in the Sun in FlaglerCounty: The Flagler County beach is a public access area that is free to walk on. There are no driving areas on Flagler County beaches so the parents can relax that much more just knowing that they do not have to worry about traffic on the beach. Of course with the beach comes beach related dangers such as rip currents, sunburns, and jellyfish stings but aside from the natural dangers the beach is a great place to take the kids this summer for absolutely free! Pack the cooler with plenty of drinks and snacks, don’t forget the sunscreen, and the kids will have a blast!
Parks in FlaglerCounty: While there are many different parks throughout the county in Palm Coast, Bunnell, and Flagler Beach, there are a few that are especially worth noting for some free fun for the kids. Wadsworth Park located on the east end of State Road 100 just before the bridge into Flagler Beach offers a skate park as well as soccer fields, a playground, and canoe access as well as a fishing pier. This park is a great place to take the kids for some summer fun in the sun without actually going to the beach. Another great park in Flagler County which is located right in Palm Coast is called Princess Place Preserve. This park is great for older children who enjoy fishing and nature trails. Princess Place is also a great place to have a cook out and it’s free to enter the park from 7am until 6pm daily!
Movies: Once a month throughout the entire summer there are free movies offered in the park at Wickline Center in Flagler Beach. The schedule of movies to be offered can be found on the Flagler County Parks and Recreation website under the Wickline Center Park Info. At the night movies children can enjoy watching the movie for free (just bring a blanket or chairs to sit on in the park), and there are also various scout troops that offer goodies such as popcorn, cookies, candies and drinks for a small charge.
For free movies all summer long, a short drive to the Regal Cinemas in Ormond Beach allows parents to take their children to totally free cinema movies all summer long. Every Tuesday and Wednesday around 10am the cinema has a free PG movie and a free G movie airing. The 2009 lineup includes children’s favorites such as Horton Hears a Who and A Bee Movie just to name a few. These movies fun from the first week in June through the beginning of August and they are a great place to take the kids over the summer on a rainy day when there is no fun in the sun. The best thing about them…They are 100% FREE!
Swimming in FlaglerCounty on a Budget: Swimming is available at a variety of places throughout Flagler County and most places are very affordable. For free, the kids can swim at the beach or many of the parks that have water access to the canals that run through Flagler County. For a small fee ($4 per adult and $2 per child under 3) daily entrance into the Belle Terre Swim and Racquet Club is offered. The racquet club has a very large outdoor pool and there is a lifeguard on duty throughout the summer making this not just a budget friendly activity for the kids this summer but also a safe activity!
