When the dry, moisture-sucking winter wind comes roaring across the Midwest plains, I stay inside as much as possible. However, there are those times when I must venture forth outdoors during that miserably cold season, and my hands often take the brunt of it. Even with gloves on, I often arrive at my destination with red, chapped hands, sometimes so cracked that they bleed. I have tried several different remedies, but it was not until a friend recommended I try Curel Ultra Healing lotion that I found total relief to this malady.
Distributed by the Kao Brands Company, Curel Ultra Healing claims to be “dermatologist tested”, for “extra-dry skin” and supposedly has “extra-strength skin hydrators.” Healing and protection for a full “24 hours” is also mentioned on the container it comes in, a light blue, easy-to-squeeze lotion bottle. Finally, it is advertised that it is not greasy and will not clog one’s pores. It has many different chemicals in its ingredients and contains (among other things) petrolatum, acacia senegal, palmitate and even eucalyptus globulus leaf extract!
Application of Curel Ultra Healing is very straight-forward: Simply squirt a bit onto the dry skin on the hands, and smooth on by rubbing it in with hand motions. Apply more if needed, especially on very dry , rough skin regions. When complete, I have found that the dry skin feeling seems to go away nearly instantly, leaving a soothing sensation behind (especially if my hands were just cracking like an earthquake had ran through them immediately before application!). However, the claim of not being greasy is not exactly 100% correct, in my experience, as there is a slight oily/greasy feeling, but not one that is extremely noticeable or that interferes with the lotion too much.
I found that applying the Curel Ultra Healing lotion once every day, usually after washing my hands and before going to bed worked the best. I would not recommend showering or washing your hands intensely immediately after applying the lotion, it needs a little time to set into the skin for best affect. Also, and while this may very well be a common sense statement, I’ll write it down anyway: Curel Ultra Healing lotion is only for external use!
I have been very, very happy with the performance and lasting-healing ability of Curel Ultra Healing lotion. It is very affordable, gets the job done, and works quickly. I would recommend this product to anyone suffering from dry, chapped hands, especially if resulting from exposure to intense winter wind situations.
