Color trends for the home design world come from the fashion trends the year before. That’s how the design world works, in a nutshell: colors, shades and trends trickle down from one industry into the next. So, if you’re working to stay ahead of the curve – look to the fashion world for what’s going to be coming. By doing so, you’ll appear to be “ahead of the trend.” This is always great, especially if you’re aiming to impress. Here are a few hot color trends for 2009.
Color Trend – Deep, Earthy Greens
If you watch the Home and Garden Channel as much as I do, you’ve probably noticed that a lot of people are getting deep, earthy greens in favor of last year’s bold red. The great thing about shades of green is that they look fabulous and they’ve got a nice calming effect – making them perfect for bathrooms, bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms and even kitchens.
Trend Alert: Deep green walls with white trim. Gorgeous!
Color Trend – Rustic or Burnt Orange
You’ve probably noticed a lot of rustic orange shades popping up as well. This color especially brings a great touch of color into rooms such as the dining room. Be careful not to go too orange, because you may end up with a scary, Halloween styled room rather than a trendy Art Deco room.
Trend Alert: Bamboo and rusty oranges look great together. If you’ve got the budget for it, redoing your floors with bamboo is a great way to go. Plus, the sturdy bamboo will last for ages.
Color Trend – Fabulous, Sunflower Yellows
Yellow is bright, it’s bold, it makes people happy – whether they realize it or not. While neon yellow isn’t the way to go, choosing yellows with a darker tint to them will help brighten up any room.
Trend Alert: Deep yellows go great with other natural colors such as greens, blues, browns and oranges. You’ll be able to create a unique, one of a kind color palette using natural, deep color shades paired with dark tinted yellows.
Color Trend 2010 – Bold, Brighter Colors
Another huge up and coming trend is Global colors. These are more bold color choices such as black, azure blue, sunflower yellow (as mentioned previously,) dusty pinks, pale blues, bold purples, reds with a hint of orange, and of course, bright shades of green. When it comes to true color trends, it’s all about palettes – not single colors.
Trend Alert: Moroccan style décor looks great with the above-mentioned colors. Plus, if you’re really into global color schemes, this look is perfect for you.
