Here are some fun “do it yourself” decoration ideas for your girl’s birthday party. Making your own birthday party decorations with your child is not only a great way to save money but it’s also a terrific way to spend quality time with your child! Plan your party well in advance so you can have all your decorations ready for the big day. You can make her birthday party a bit hit while sticking to your budget!
Things you might need:
- Paper plates
- Double stick tape
- Tacky putty
- Glue stick
- Long skewers
- Construction paper
- Yarn or cord
- Fake flowers
- Any crafty item
Paper Plate Decor: Buy some cheap white paper plates and draw big colorful flowers on the front of the plate (the side you eat on) using bright markers or crayons. Attach the plates all over the walls with double stick tape or tacky putty. The raised edge of the plate adds nice flair to the walls and the colorful flowers make terrific art for all your guests to enjoy. And let them take one or two home as party favors!
Newspaper Streamers: Cut strips of newspaper about 4 inches wide and glue the ends together with a glue stick. Roll the strips up as you make them until you have a long continuous roll of newspaper strips. Use this just as you would crepe paper! If you want colorful newspaper streamers use the funny pages or other colored pages like grocery inserts. But black and white works fine too!
Balloons: Blow up your own balloons and skip the expensive helium balloons that you buy at the party center. Regular balloons filled with regular air are just as festive and they are cheap! If you want to make some balloons appear like they are floating in the air you can attach bunches of balloons to a long skewer and hold them up by sticking the skewer into a candle holder or vase. This makes an awesome table decoration!
Party Hats: Make your own party hats by making a simple cone out of colorful construction paper. Decorate the hats any way you want using stickers, fake flowers, whatever! Staple a strand of yarn or cord on each side of the cone so the child can tie the hat under their chin.
Place Cards: Make some fun and inexpensive place cards for each guest. Cut some fun shapes out of construction paper like a balloon shape or floral shape and write the guest’s name on the place card. Then tape the place card to a straw and tape the straw to the back of the chair. Then everyone knows where to sit and you also have a fun decoration too!
