Why women are more talkative? Why men can not do more things at once and why are they good at math? Are these differences given by the brain?
1. Men can’t do several things at once
What people think: the woman is able to activate the two hemispheres of the brain in the same time, so she can do several things at once, while the man is programmed to do no more than one thing at the time.
What’s the truth: Of course that’s not true; this wrong idea is based on a study conducted in 1982 on only 20 brains, which was clarified later. In 1997, a study conducted on 2,000 subjects examined by MRI couldn’t show any significant difference between the two sexes.
2. Women have no sense of orientation
What people think: A French study showed that men feel better than women when it comes about the representations in two or three dimensions, such as the road maps.
What’s the truth: It’s all about education and experience. Thus, the study was continued by training the subjects for a week, after which the results were even.
3. Women are more literary
What people think: Girls talk faster than boys; they have better grammar and reading skills and have a more developed vocabulary because of hormones in the brain. Estrogens enhance their oral activity and activate two brain hemispheres.
What’s the truth: The studies never validated this theory. Moreover, no scientific study has shown that hormones have any direct effect on intellectual abilities. Unlike animals, our brain is not only subjected to the action of hormones. The cortex development allows to the human being to make decisions and to master his instincts.
4. Men are better at math
What people think: According to American studies, girls are less prepared to algebra than boys, although they have the advantage in mental calculation. Men know better than girls to solve abstract and noble equations.
What’s the truth: Obviously this humorous vision can’t be true. Both the boys and girls have the same potential to science.
5. Women are more intuitive
What people think: Women perceive better the emotional shades of a face. Some say that this is due to hormones; others believe that the sensory receptors or the cerebral activity are responsible for it. Moreover, female brain would be continuously alert. During the sleep, the women’s brain keeps 90% of its electrical activity, while the men’s brain keeps just 70% of its activity.
What’s the truth: These conclusions are based on a rather old experiment, never replicated or confirmed. It seems that men and women feel the same emotions, but express them in different ways, especially because of education and social-cultural stereotypes.
6. Women are more ordered
What people think: Women have the angle of peripheral vision superior and an excellent visual memory. The man, who is less favored by nature, must turn his look to perceive and record everything that surrounds him.
Consequently, a woman will arrange her clothes in the closet by separate categories, while the man will arrange everything practically: the jogging outfit, the socks and the shoes in a corner and the work clothes in other corner.
What’s the truth: These scenarios don’t have anything to do with the native brain differences. The education matters!
7. Men are more sensitive to erotic images
What people think: An American study concluded that the two brains, male and female, react differently to erotic images, as the male encephalitis is more stimulated by these images.
Some argue that this difference is related to hormones in the brain. It is true that these hormones are very active in laboratory mice.
What’s the truth: No serious scientific study demonstrated the same issue in humans. Studies on brain flexibility prove that the difference between cerebral brain activities is due to differences of education and previous experiences.
8. Men are more skillful
What people think: Because men were hunting mammoths, they are naturally more skillful for hunting.
What’s the truth: Recent studies on brain flexibility show that the learning process and experience improve our brain capacity during the entire life.
