Diets are hard to maintain during the summer months! On a hot and sunny day, there is nothing more that I would love to indulge myself with than a great tasting ice cream cone. My husbands favorite brand of ice cream is Dryer’s, so when I was looking at ice cream for him, I spied a box of Dreyer’s All Natural Fruit Bars, picking up the Tangerine flavor.
Dryer’s All Natural Fruit Bars Tangerine flavor come in an orange colored box, with pieces of tangerine pieces all over it. The picture shows what looks like your typical popsicle, and there are six fruit ice bars in the box.
After reading the front of the box, I didn’t even hesitate to pick up the box and add it to my shopping cart. The front reads “Fat Free”, “Excellent Source of Vitamin C”, and “Made with Real Fruit”.
Each fruit bar contains:
* 80 calories
* Zero fat calories
* 0 grams total fat
* 0 mg cholesterol
* 0 mg of sodium
* 20 grams of carbohydrates
* 0 grams dietary fiber
* 19 grams of sugar
* 0 grams of protein
Water, sugar, tangerine puree, orange pulp, citric acid, tangerine juice from concentrate, annatto color, tangerine oil, natural flavor, guar gum, carob bean gum, tumeric extract, ascorbic acid (vitamin C).
OH MY GOSH, Dryer’s All Natural Fruit Bars are absolutely delicious! They come in a clear plastic wrapper, and measure roughly 4 inches by two inches, and they do look very much like a popsicle, except they don’t have the groove down the center that makes them easy to separate into two portions.
At first I was surprised by how sour these Dryer’s All Natural Fruit Bars are, they remind me of the children’s candy Sweet Tarts. The bars are a much deeper orange color than shown on the front of the box, and they are sweet and sour at the same time. I would say there is more sour to them than sweet, but this makes them a very refreshing summer treat! Almost like eating frozen sherbet on a stick.
The back of my box reads “Dryer’s froze out the competition again to win the prestigious ChefsBest Award for BEST TASTE! The ChefsBest Award for Best Taste is awarded to the brand rated highest overall among leading brands by independent professional chefs”.
One Dryer’s All Natural Fruit Bars provides 25% of my daily allowance of vitamin C, and who couldn’t use more vitamin C? Each bite has a bit of substance to it, since these bars do contain actual tangerine puree and orange pulp, but it’s not overly noticeable – it just gives them a great texture. I like that Dryer’s uses all natural forms of ingredients to give the bars their orange color, instead of using chemical dyes.
Props to Dryer’s for making a truly all natural, great tasting, vividly refreshing summer treat with their All Natural Fruit Bars! These are a real winner folks! If you, like me, are on a diet, don’t deprive yourself of a yummy, ice cold, refreshing sweet and sour treat! Just 80 calories! Almost anyone can fit 80 extra calories into their day!
Of course, if you are diabetic or on a low carb diet, these may not be the right treat for you, so weigh the pro’s and con’s. Since I am counting calories and fat grams, and sugar intake, within reason, is not a concern, these fit wonderfully into my diet plans, and when my husband is enjoying his ice cream, I can enjoy one of these and not feel deprived. And that is the key to maintaining my diet, not feeling like I am being deprived of the foods I love. This box retailed for around $4.50.
