Games for a birthday can be hard to come up with and be original, especially at that crucial age of 16.
I have a few ideas I’d like to share. My daughter will be turning 16 in November so this would be a great time for me to plan ahead.
I found a great website at http://www.oneishy.com./ Now it takes a few minutes, but it shouldn’t be much of a problem as long as you only have around 5-7 of their best friends and not a whole bunch of girls. But this quiz will help them get to know each other and give them something to talk about for years to come. If you are going to have more attend, you can print out the tests and just take the time to enter theirs in, individually and that way they can party while you are doing the work. Then you can print out their strengths and weaknesses. Since this is a happy occasion it might be better if you just print out their strengths. They will have fun pointing the finger at each other and at themselves for example if a girl is melancholy one of her strengths is to be genius prone. That will be something fun for her to talk about and hear the other girls say: “Let’s ask the genius” more than likely she’ll be right because melancholy’s also have a tendency to be right. Do a few at home tests with your spouse or friend to see how the best way is to do it in a group. We have done this before and it’s a blast and great for the older girls, so they don’t feel like they are playing kid’s games.
Another great game to play is to write down 10 – 15 or better yet 16, since it’s the sixteenth birthday party. Put them all in a basket and draw one out. The one that is drawn gets a prize. Girls that age love make up and body spray. Make up can be hard to pick since you don’t know what they like, but you can’t usually go wrong with lip glosses. Now after that is done give back to the girls their papers and have each girl read aloud what they like about the birthday girl. This is another nice one that wont feel childish.
Never pick games that are demeaning or degrading. As you can imagine this would be terrible for self esteem. Self esteem is very important at this age.
Truth or dare is old and out dated, but you could do something similar like each girl can make up a quiz and have 4 answers each. You can call it: “How well do you know me”. Here is an example of 1 question.
My favorite pastime is:
- riding horses
- listening to music
- re-arranging my room
- talking to my boyfriend.
You can also do what is my favorite meal, what is my favorite car, what do I want to do when I grow up and much more.
Have the girls write their answers down on a separate piece of paper so that the quiz can be passed around. Make it so everyone gets a turn at doing everyone’s.
They shouldn’t get board because teens love these kind of things.
If you are limited on time just do about 5 questions. That’s enough. If you want to make it longer, the sky is the limit!
You also can do outside activities. Horseshoes are fun for all ages and most personalities will enjoy it. If someone says they just want to watch, try to encourage them to do it. Most likely they will be glad they did.
Most teenagers like dodge-ball if you have a lot of teenagers over. I haven’t heard of any that don’t.
If you have a swimming pool you can also look up games to play in the pool on your favorite search engine. I’m sure you will find plenty.
Also if you don’t think this is enough games in one night ask around for those people who have had teens that are now older and what they did.
Also look up on facebook what some of the games and quizzez are. I, myself, have gotten some ideas from there. Http://www.facebook.com
I’m sure you will find something. Don’t sweat it and don’t get anxious. It will all work out. Sometimes we can worry that teenagers are hard to please. Especially because our own seem to be at times. But there is something about getting them all together that changes everything.
