Nudity is not a thing for after dark anymore, at least not in central Maine. In Vassalboro, Maine a new coffee shop just opened up called Grand View Topless Café. In this topless café you can be served your coffee and donuts by a topless waiter or waitress. Sexism doesn’t exist in this shop.
Nudity used to be something that happened when the sun went down. Strip clubs and bars who have hosted exotic dancers would wait until the sun went down to open their doors to adults who wanted to see some skin while having a drink. Now there is no waiting until dark. You can head on over to the topless coffee shop and have a drink of hot steaming coffee while gazing at half nude staff members.
Town officials who have received complaints from prudish members of the community have said that the Topless Café meets the letters of the law’s requirements for their business practices. The complaints have not stopped patrons from attending the novelty of the topless café. Opening day had the topless café staff serving over 2000 patrons.
I give kudos to the topless café owners. This video Topless Café shows a woman who wants to know what the point of the business in their town is and the response of the gentleman is a short laugh and an answer, “To make money.” What other reason is there for business? This idea is ingenious. Men and women like looking at the nude upper halves of bodies and we also like drinking our coffee. Combine them and you get a slew of customers.
I’m amazed no one had done the topless café idea before. Perhaps this is because of the way society views the human body. Nudity in most places is something to be ashamed of and covered up. How skewed is this thought when we are all born naked? Societies all over the world have no shame when it comes to the human body’s nude form. Just take a look at National Geographic’s photos of places they visit all over the world. Many women and men go about the day in little to no clothing. No-one looks at them like they are less of a person because of the society they live in, do they?
I think what bothers me the most is that the same people who are complaining about the topless café establishment are the ones that you would probably see in the titty bar… ahem.. strip club when the sun goes down. God forbid we show our bodies by the light of day.
Grand View Topless Café has signs posted that you must be 18 to enter and there is to be no touching of the wait staff. Pretty much the same rules apply as they would a strip club by the light of the moon. No cameras are allowed inside and all the windows have dark coverings to keep the nudity indoors. I see nothing wrong with this establishment and hope they make a mighty fine profit. I think it’s the perfect combination.
Beautiful bodies and a beautiful bodied coffee, my palate is already watering.
