Baking soda is amazing stuff. Baking soda is the perfect green cleaner. I’ve published another article 20 Uses for Baking Soda, but I wanted to write a separate article specifically describing the use of baking soda for cleaning and scrubbing. We all know that most regular household products contain toxins and ingredients not friendly to our environment. If our foods and food grade materials contain such toxins as BPA (plastic products and baby care products), glycol (some toothpastes) and melamine (some baby formulas), MSG, hydrogenated fats, etc., just imagine how toxic cleaning products must be.
It behooves us individually and collectively to find ways to meet our basic needs that are green and earth-friendly. One of the best solutions is to use natural sources to perform basic tasks. That’s why baking soda is an ideal solution. Baking soda, or bicarbonate of soda (sodi bic, in Great Britain) is an elemental compound; at $.39 a box, baking soda is cheap and green. Baking soda cleans, whitens, sanitizes and scrubs without abrasive. Baking soda is so mild that you can scrub the exterior of a car without damaging the finish. Here are some ways to use baking soda in all your household cleaning.
-Need a mild, gentle yet effective linoleum floor cleaner? Baking soda fits the bill. Add some baking soda to hot water. My kitchen floor is almost 6 years old. It has never cleaned so thoroughly or so easily as it does since I began using baking soda in the water.
-How about your pots and pans? Sick of scrubbing? Add some baking soda to your soapy wash water and it will cut grease and make scrubbing lots easier. I like to use baking soda on glass bake-ware; it doesn’t scratch and I don’t have to scrub my hands raw to remove baked on food.
-Baking soda polishes as well as cleans; use it to get glassware shiny clean.
-Baking soda is a water softener as well. Run a little baking soda through your dishwasher to remove mineral deposits and hard water stains. Use baking soda for an overall sanitizer in the dishwasher also.
-Baking soda safely scrubs stove-tops also. I have a gas stove with all the burner attachments. Baking soda cleans spills, boil-overs and baked on food very well. My 10 year-old stove looks brand-new after a scrubbing with baking soda.
-Baking soda is the perfect mild abrasive to clean soap scum from sinks and bathtubs.
-Baking soda cleans the toilet bowl and sanitizes as well.
-On chrome surfaces or other reflective surfaces, baking soda shine without leaving residue or scratchy glass.
-Add baking soda to extra dirty or smelly laundry. Baking soda will boost the efficiency of your laundry soap and freshen clothes.
Simply said; if you need to scrub, polish, shine, sanitize or deodorize, you can be sure that baking soda will do the job. Baking soda is a green, safe, non-abrasive, non-toxic environmentally friendly product. Try it; the price is right!
