When it comes to the home, women like to decorate. When women decorate, men sometimes feel a little less masculine. It’s always a great idea to try to include your man in your decorating parade, but that “yeah, sure, whatever you want honey,” doesn’t always mean they really like it. Guys aren’t into the same things, and chances are – that pretty floral print rug isn’t on his decorating must-haves list.
What are his interests?
What are his interests? If he’s into a certain comic, TV show, sports or other hobby – try to play one of those up. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to your guy’s likes and dislikes. There is no perfect everyone-will-love-it color scheme. You’ve got to really get his input on things he would like to see.
While you may not want to decorate your living room in a comic book character theme, you could use that in other areas of the home. If you’re lucky enough to have the extra space, and you’ve either got separate bathrooms or offices, or you’ve got a game room that he uses most – start there. You’ll be able to really focus on him and his needs, rather than your own decorating impulses.
Painting and Décor
By this point in time, you should know what colors your guy likes and what colors he’ll shy away from. Chances are, pink isn’t his favorite color.
Guys tend to lean toward color choices such as blues, reds, and greens. This leads more to what these colors represent to most people. For example, blue has a calming effect while red is a bolder color that can represent anything from luck and fortune to anger. Green can represent various things in nature and it’s a great choice if you’re decorating with a hunting theme. Blue works well with a fishing theme. If your guy is into anime, red will be a great choice because it gives off an oriental feel, especially when paired with his anime figures or posters.
When you pick out furniture, try to pick out more durable and easy to clean furniture. Whether they’ll admit it or not, your guy will more than likely spill something, somewhere. If you’ve spent a lot of time working on their room, they probably won’t want to tell you out of fear that you’ll be very, very angry with them. Save them the trouble and pick out things like leather, or use Scotchgard to protect the fabrics. They’ll thank you for it later.
Whatever you decide, keep in mind that this room is for your guy – not you.
