Sometimes life choices and events can be not only amazing but shocking as well, for example, the choices of Nydia Suleman. Here is one lady who quickly climbed to the top, and became an overnight celebrity because of choices and the media. Nydia, 33, who slightly resembles Angelina Jolie, is an unemployed single parent of 14, and enjoying every minute of it, especially the publicity. Because of facial features similar to that of Angelina Jolie, rumor has it that Nydia had plastic surgery, which she denies. However, some of the Suleman neighbors, according to Tori Richards and Jeremy Olson of the New York Post, stated that Nydia had visited a plastic surgeon and had her lips injected with collagen.
Nydia worked at Metropolitan State Hospital in California from 1997 until November 2008,according to Scott Michaels of ABC News. In 1999, while Nydia was restraining a patient, she suffered a back injury when another patient accidently pushed a wooden desk into her back. She filed for disability. In 2001, her back injury worsened due to an automobile accident and pregnancy. Her employer stopped disability payments in July 2001, but Nydia fought back and appealed her case. The disability was reinstated in 2002, and the payments continued to August 2008.
Marcos Gutierrez, told Inside Edition, that he and Nydia were married from 1996- 2008. However, because of the inability to have children, the couple separated in 2000. He stated that Nydia was a good person, but was in for difficult times being a single parent and raising 14 children. Marcos Guiterrez filed for divorce in 2006, with the divorce being granted in 2008.
After her first pregnancy, Naydia continued to receive fertility treatments. As with the first pregnancy, the following pregnancies were in vitro. The ages of the six children are 7, 6, 5, 3, and 2, a set of twins. In 2008, Nydia returned to Dr, Michael Kamrava insisting that the last 6 frozen embryos be implanted. She could not bear to see them destroyed. Although, Dr, Kamarava promised Mr. Suleman, her stepfather, that he would not give any fertility treatments after her 6th pregnancy, he broke his promise and implanted the six embryos. Two of the embryos split, and became sets of twins. Now instead of six embryos, Nydia was carrying eight. Nydia was offered the option of selective reduction, after one month, when it was evident that there were five fetuses; Nydia refused. (Wikipedia free Encyclopedia)
As with the other six children, Naydia listed the father, on the birth certificates of the octuplets, as being David Solomon. Mr. Suleman, her stepfather and the babies’ grandfather had told Tory Richards and Jeremy Olson, of the New York Post that David Solomon was not the father. In fact, Nydia made up the name to protect the actual sperm donor. According to California law, falsifying a birth certificate is a felony and punishable by a maximum of three years in jail.
Adding to the confusion, Dennis Beaudoin revealed to ABC News, that he and Nydia dated from 1997 -1999, and that he had donated sperm on three separate occasions so that she could have children. Two samples were donated at home, and when Nydia told him that she had cancer, the third donation occurred at a fertility clinic. However, according to Victor Munoz, the publicist at that time, the entire amount of sperm was implanted. Nydia has also offered to submit DNA samples to prove that Beaudoin is not the father of any of the children.
The Telegrapyh.co uk, reported that Mark Coleman in Los Angeles, stated that according to her publicist, Victor Munoz, Nydia became very greedy. After the births were revealed by the news media, Nydia became a celebrity. According to various rumors, she asked for 2 million dollars for sit down interviews and is seeking commercial sponsors for her babies. Nydia has also stated that she wants her own television series portraying her as a child expert and wants free diapers. Victor Munoz resigned, stating that she had become too greedy. Nydia’s decision to profit from her story and selling photographs of the eight babies to the media have upset and angered several children’s activist groups.
The first PR firm, the Killeen Furtney Group dropped Nydia, stating that it was in the best interest and safety of the firm. Joanne Killeen, president of the firm, stated that she and her client, Nydia, had received several death threats.
On February 27, US Magazine informed the public that Nydia was receiving one year of free designer clothing for her 14 children and that the designer was Custom Kingdom, the very same designer that designed the clothing for Angelia Jolie’s children.
March 9, 2009, ABC News and several other news media have reported that Nydia is getting a new home in LaHabra California. The $564,900 home is being purchased by Ed Doud, her natural father, with the deal closing Friday March 13th; Mr. Doud is reported to be divorced from her mother. Nydia and her children have been living with her mother; however the house is now in foreclosure. Nydia is also going to receive child care help from a volunteer group.
Nydia has her own website, where she is asking for donations and comments for her and her children. The website address is http://theNydiasulemanfamily.com/
I have no ill feelings towards Nydia, but wonder if she is actually aware of the consequences of her actions. She is a single parent, now with 14 children. As of now, she will have volunteer help for her children, however what happens when the help stops? Caring for two or three children is at times difficult, but 14? Will she have the strength to give each child the proper amount of time, and care?
Nydia spoke of going back to school to get her master’s degree in counseling. How will she find the time to attend classes, let alone do homework, with 14 children? Does she have any idea as to who will care for the children while she is in class, or trying to do homework?
Nydia is 33 years old, an adult. She used very poor judgment in making her decision of having so many children. . Many people love and want lots of children, but draw the line as to how many. They want to ensure that each child has more than adequate care, attention and love.
I am irritated with Nydia because of the message she is sending. Apparently, Nydia believes that single parents have the right to have lots of children even though they can’t provide for them. She seems to believe that there is nothing wrong with using your children for profit by selling information and photos to the media. Last of all, she apparently thinks that it is ok to put up a website asking for donations and public support for the family.
