Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are getting married, but the news isn’t becoming quite as popular as the couple had hoped. Two of the stars of the scripted reality series The Hills will be getting married at a wedding ceremony this weekend, and as with most of their public engagements, the couple is trying to sell the pictures for their “big day.” Maybe it’s because they just love the attention, or maybe it’s just because they really want some more money, but either way, they are trying to once again take advantage of their fans by putting on a huge production for the public.
Montag and Pratt have been trying to sell the photographs from their upcoming wedding to magazines, and have been offering up their exclusive photos to the highest bidder. Unfortunately for them, nobody is biting at the chance to own these pictures, and rumors are swirling about what the reason might be. One of the rumors is that the pictures are just too expensive, and that the Heidi Montag / Spencer Pratt camps are just asking for too much money in order to get the exclusive. The other thought is that the 15 minutes of fame for this couple may be reaching an end, and that people just don’t care enough anymore.
Even if the pictures aren’t sold for the millions of dollars that the couple is hoping for, fans of The Hills will be able to tune into MTV on Saturday night to see the wedding videos on a “special” episode of the show. Some feel that this is just a really expanded publicity stunt, and that the couple has already officially eloped in order to have their own marriage off camera. This could end up just being a big joke on fans of the show if Montag and Pratt turn out to have played a big “punk” on their loyal followers.
This isn’t the first time that a television network has given people the format to get married live on television, and it certainly won’t be the last if they can keep drawing in viewers. Some of them, like Rob and Amber from the other reality show Survivor, didn’t draw in good audience numbers, but some of them do, and MTV is hoping that at least all of the typical “Hills” viewers will tune in to watch it, and that the word of mouth will convince enough people to tune in as well. These attention deprived celebrities are stopping at nothing to get themselves on television, and with their wedding aired to the world, maybe the birth of their first child will be the next big television special.
