In fact you can still get calls from people taking surveys, charities, and people that you have given permission to call. If you have a relationship with a company currently such as a credit card company they will probably still call you with various promotions and offers. To stop these types of calls you may want to call the credit card company directly and request that you not be called. These requests are normally handled in a timely manner.
After entering your request it should take approximately 30 days. If you are still getting calls after 31 days then you may want register a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, (FTC). The registration is completely free and you should call the toll free number from the phone that you want to have removed. This website also gives you an option to verify if your phone number has actually been added. Go to the website and click on verify a registration. After being added to the do not call registry over 90% of consumers say they receive less telemarketing calls.
