Do you actually know what a trillion is? Its one penny more then 999 billion, 999 million, 999 thousand, 999 dollars and 99 cents. The current bail out money is being talked about in more then one trillion – in many trillions! We seem to have just zoomed past billions before I even had a chance to get used to that huge number. So I got to thinking – What comes next? Well, its quadrillion. That’s right. After adding 999 trillion to that already obscene number you move on to quadrillion. And after that it’s quintillion, and then sextillion, septillion, octillion, nonillion, and decillion. I think we all better get familiar with these words. We may be hearing them sooner then you might expect. I have no idea where all this money is coming from. I keep hearing about a stimulus package to spur the economy. Do you feel stimulated? I sure don’t. Somehow the $25 a week I’m getting extra in my unemployment check just doesn’t do much to stimulate me. Not will all these trillions flying around.
Considering how quickly these numbers seem to grow I began thinking about how much money its going to take in the future to provide aid to foreign countries. Suppose in about 10 years the government sends a decillion to some third world country. You can only wire transfer so much. Eventually the cash has to get there. What amount of currency would they use? You can’t send million dollar bills. Who would make change? Nope, it would have to be a smaller increment. And that amount of cash would be extremely heavy, especially centered in one small country. I bet the axis of the earth would be affected. And if that was affected the orbit around the sun would change too. This would make us in danger of being the victim of a change in centrifugal force and could send us careening out into the universe where we would explode and become nothing more then space dust. An effective way to stop the recession, end world hunger and cure every disease. And who knows, maybe we might explode with a whole lot less. Maybe a simple sextillion would do it. But it really wouldn’t be my choice. There has to be something better then the end of civilization to fix these things.
You have to stop and think that if the government was going to spend these mind boggling amounts of money why can’t they just give every American family a million dollars and let them spend it the way they want? I would sure feel stimulated by that and so would everyone I know. And it wouldn’t cost them nearly as much as they are planning on spending on these bailouts. Then the president could wash his hands of the entire issue and let the country heal itself. Even as we listen in shock to the cost of recovery the president is still talking about money needed to support countries overseas. We losing our homes and our jobs and our retirements and who knows what else and you still don’t hear about American citizens really getting the help they need.
Wasn’t it FDR who said “A chicken in every pot”? Taking inflation into consideration I’m advocating a million in every bank account. Why does the government have to make everything so complicated?
