When we go away on vacation, many of us don’t really think about eating healthy. Vacation is usually the time when many find themselves splurging on large portions and the unhealthiest foods possible. Vacation is the time when you want to just relax and in most instances, your waistline also gets pretty relaxed while you are on vacation, too. So how can you eat healthy when on vacation and still enjoy your trip?
The first thing that you need to do is understand that eating healthy does not mean that you can not have some of your favorite foods. You will however, want to play close attention to the way that they are prepared, and of course your portion sizes. For example if you really enjoy eating fried chicken, you can have some while on vacation. Instead of having four or five pieces of chicken, just eat one piece of friend chicken, and add a bunch of salad and vegetables to the rest of your plate. This way you can still enjoy your favorite food, and be eating healthy at the same time. If you are worried about not feeling full when you are finished you can add some nuts to your salad. Walnuts are perfect for helping a person feel full and satisfied after they have eaten just a few of them. Mix them with a healthy salad and you will have a great tasting meal that will satisfy you.
Another thing that many do when on vacation is to skip meals to save up for the larger dinner. Buffet’s are something that many families are now enjoying when on vacation. The reason is because many families are finding it to be a more affordable option, as well as a tasty one. By skipping a meal you will obviously be starving yourself. This will then cause you to want to eat twice as much at dinner time. Afterward you will feel very tired and will not want to do much of anything. Because of this the pounds will slowly creep up on you while on vacation. Instead of skipping a meal try snacking during the day. Choose healthy snack options that will satisfy your taste buds and keep you from overindulging at the next meal. Remember small portions, and being aware of what you are eating are your best options. If you are planning on eating out, try looking up the restaurant online. You may be able to find their menu online where they list the calories and the ingredients used in the dishes. Or you can just choose items from the menu that are healthy for you to eat. The same can be done for your kids. Don’t just allow them to stock up on dessert or to eat a ton of junk food. Instead you want to help them make healthy choices even when they are on vacation.
