When you are remodeling your home there are many materials that you may have leftover when you are done. One of these that you might have lying around is a piece of sheetrock. There are many things that you can do with a scrap piece of sheetrock. If you have a piece of sheetrock left that is approximately a two foot square you can actually make a great bulletin board with a little instruction. I will now show you how you can make a nice bulletin board out of a few things that you might even have lying around the house.
First you will need to make sure that the piece of sheetrock you are using is a square or rectangle. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but the closer you can cut it to perfect the better it will actually look. Next you will need to purchase these items if you don’t have them around. You will need to have a colored sheet of material that is big enough to cover the front of the board with some extra to be attached around the back. You will also need ribbon, fabric glue, and brads, tacks, or upholstery nails of your choice.
Next you will need to glue lay the fabric out on the table. Make sure that the side you want to show is facing the table. You want the dim side up. You will then make sure that it is smooth, with no ripples in the fabric. Gently center the piece of sheetrock on the fabric. You will then need to wrap the fabric around the back of the board and glue it to the back of the sheetrock. You will glue all of the edges. Just make sure that your fabric is not rippled! You will then need to cut pieces of ribbon, see my pattern to see what lengths you will need to cut. As you can see you will need quite a bit of ribbon; it just depends on how big your piece of sheetrock is. You will then wrap the ribbon around the front of the board according to the design I have created. These should all be evenly spaced. You will glue the ends of the ribbon to the back of the board. You can actually dissect the board evenly and put markings on the back to help guide you. Once you have it all glued, you will now add the tacks, brads, or upholstery nails wherever two pieces of ribbon cross. Look at the diagram for the pink dot. This is an example of where a tack would be placed. For the last part, you will to attach a hanger. You can either add a piece of ribbon to the back of the board to make a hanger, or you can buy one and put it at the top. The choice is yours.
As you can see it is easy to make the bulletin board. You just need a few items and you can make it your own way. It is easy to get fabric in the colors you want. Just have fun with it and be creative. You can add pictures or newspaper clippings by sliding them behind the ribbon or just tacking them to the board. As I said the choice is yours.
