Every woman appreciates beauty and delicacy. From her surroundings to her clothing, many women look for ways to add simple style and charm to even the most mundane things. And when she can combine style with functionality as in scented padded hangers she has achieved her goal.
Need special hangers for your delicate things? Looking for a special gift for a woman? Scented padded hangers are easy to make and fit the bill quite nicely.
These hangers can be coordinated to your bedroom by using fabrics and ribbons that match your décor. Or you can use remnants and make each hanger a work of art.
Each hanger will require 1 package of quilt batting , 1 wooden hanger, masking tape, thread to coordinate with your fabric, muslin or scrap of sheeting, 20 oz size rug and room deodorizer, 3/8 yd 45″-wide fabric and 1 ½ yd ½” wide ribbon.
Layer two pieces of batting, each 6″ wide and 18″ long. Find the center of the batting and poke a hole through it with the hanger hook. Wind the batting around the wooden part of the hanger and tape into place. Trim excess batting and sew the ends closed. Make sure both sides of the hanger are evenly wrapped.
Using the muslin, cut a strip 2 ½” wide and 17″ long. Fold in half and stitch to close, leaving an opening in the center. Insert the rug and room deodorizer and sew opening closed. Fasten the muslin pouch to the underside of the hanger. Wind another layer of batting around the hanger and muslin and use tape to fasten in place.
Sew the rough edges of the batting together. The batting should be held firmly in place and should not shift.
Cut two pieces from the fabric, each measuring 5″ by 11″ and two more pieces measuring 5″ by 22″. Sew a basting line along each 22″ side. Gather the sides to measure 11″. With right sides facing, pin the gathered piece to the ungathered piece. Then stitch, leaving one 5″ side unstitched. Clip the corners. Repeat with the other two pieces of fabric. Turn both pieces right side out. Your tube will have a gathered top and an ungathered bottom.
Slip one fabric tube onto each side of the hanger. Turn the raw edges under so that the edges of the tubes meet. Tack the fabric together at the top and bottom of the hanger. Stitch together all around the bottom ungathered bottom part.
Using ½ yard of the ribbon, tape one end to the tip of the metal hook and wrap to cover the metal completely. Slip stitch the end of the ribbon at the base of the hook and to the fabric. Fold 1 yd of ribbon in half around the base of the wire hook. Wrap the ribbon around the hanger in two parallel bands and return to the starting point. Wrap both ends around the wire hook, crossing them behind the hook and return them to the front. Tie a bow and stitch to fasten.
These padded hangers will add a feminine touch to any closet. They are so easy to turn out. They also make a great gift.
