Hugh “The Polar Bear” Rowland
Hugh is a 27-year ice road trucking veteran and the most experienced of all the truckers of the Arctic region. He is the owner of the R & R Hoe Service, his company in British Columbia. He gets under the skin of the members of this trucking crew, which is understandable because of his extensive driving experience.
Although Drew has been a truck driver for decades, he has only been an ice road trucker for a few years. Because he’s green to the ice road, he often butts heads with other truckers. His confrontations finally results in his exist from “Ice Road Truckers” season 2 before it ended. However, viewers of the show can expect to see him return to the ice road in season 3.
Eric, an ice road trucker veteran who has been working since 1979, enjoys the freedom of the ice road. Despite the danger of driving on the icy road, he would rather do that than spend his life stuck in an office. Because Eric has worked on the ice road for so many years, he often carries large amounts of cargo across the treacherous ice road. His work ethic extends to his belief that safety is the priority of truck drivers.
Alex has been an ice road trucker for almost 30 years, and he loves driving on the ice road. His is one of the most memorable characters because of his loud, boisterous laugh. Season 2 was not as good for this ice road trucker character because he had to leave early due to illness. He is the father of 11 and the grandfather of seven.
Jerry, of Mullen Transportation, is a trucking veteran with almost 30 years of driving experience and has worked on the ice road since 2000. He takes his job seriously, always safety conscious about his driving and the driving of members of his ice road trucking crew. He understands the danger of not paying attention when traversing the ice road of the Arctic.
Rick, known for his blue Mohawk, is a new ice road trucker character, with only three years experience. He’s a brash character who wants to prove his validity as a trucker. He adds tension to the show because of this loud, over the top personality.
Davey, a 30-year foreman, runs the ice road construction crew and plows the road before truckers carry their loads across the dangerous terrain. When incidents occur on the ice road, such as break downs or emergency situations, he answers distress calls. When the ice road closes, he is the caretaker.
Bear, a six-year Arctic ice road driver, spent most of his life trucking in the logging industry. Of all the characters, he is the most likeable because of the combination of his sense of humor and his friendly personality. He gets his nickname because of his resemblance to Smokey the Bear, and he acts like a papa bear, criticizing and protecting rookie drivers when the need arise.
As fans prepare to watch season 3 of “Ice Road Trucker,” they can reminisce about characters from season 2. Some of these characters will return in the new season likely to be filled with adventure and, of course, suspenseful driving.
