The Ice Road Truckers series is the most watched original television series, cast on the History channel. Every season millions of dollars are at stake and if the deliveries are not made, the truck drivers, truck driving companies lose their revenue.
For the drivers the job is risky and are always under the pressure of delivering the package within its schedule time. Though they have a very short season, they have to deliver as many loads as possible across those perilous ice roads. God forbid, but if a severe accident happens like if the rig breaks through the ice, the trucker will just have less than a minute before he is freeze to death.
In the first season, a mixed cast of young and older experienced truck drivers were shown who try to work hard to support their families. The drivers in this season are Hugh Rowland, Rick Yemm, Alex Debogorski, Jay Westgard, T.J. Tilcox and Drew Sherwood. The other supporting panel are Tom Tweed, Rick Fitch, Ken Murray, Lee Parkinson, Todd White, Danny Reese and Neil McDougall.
The season episodes showcases the drivers carrying tons of equipment within a short span of time across the frozen lakes from Yellowknife, Canada to the destination. The episodes features how the drivers face different equipment failures, suffer from health issues, face the brutal temperatures like 60 degree below zero Fahrenheit, changing ice conditions and blizzards.
At the end of the season, Hugh makes to the top in the money count with 722 tons of load, Alex with 648 tons, Jay with 542 tons, Rick with 369 tons and Drew with 363 tons. The drivers succeed in delivering 10,922 loads to the destination.
During the second season, the ice road truckers have to carry hundreds of heavy and over sized supplies from the clients Mallik Gas Hydrate Research Project and MGM Energy. The drivers had an harrowing experience while hauling the loads across the frozen ice roads from Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk.
The drivers who took part in the second season are Hugh Rowland, Rick Yemm, Alex Debogorski, Drew Sherwood, Eric Dufresne and Bear Swensen. The other supporting panel are Kurt Wainman, Doug Saunders, Shaun Lundrigan, Jerry Dusdal, Davey Lennie, Kelly Brown, Jordan Fedosoff and Devon Neff. At the end of the season, Hugh “the polar bear” wins with 68 total loads, Eric Dufresne was close with 67 loads, Rick Yemm with 57 total loads, Bear Swenson with 53 total loads, Drew Sherwood with 9 total ice road loads and Alex Debogorski with 22 loads as his health was in jeopardy.
For all those who are waiting for their favorite characters to come back into action, here is the good news. The season 3 will be premiered on May 31, 2009 at 9pm/8c. The new season is filmed in Alaska featuring drivers Hugh Rowland, Alex Debogorski and 6 new drivers. The destination is the Prudhoe Bay which is a remote location. To get to Prudhoe Bay, the drivers have to drive 400 miles of ice-covered, mountainous terrain known as The Dalton Highway.
