Ichiban isn’t a place that we visit all that often. The prices are a little on the high side but you are getting quality food that is prepared when you order it. There are three locations but the quality is the same at all of them. The manager often walks the room to make sure everyone is in good spirits and kids are welcome. Younger kids might be a little taken back at the table-side dining experience but if you prepare them ahead of time, they shouldn’t be too scared. Any of the three locations are perfect choices when celebrating a special event for for a romantic meal.

If you are planning a party or need special accommodations, call ahead of time. They are more than willing to work with you if you have a special occasion or are celebrating an anniversary, birthday or graduation. You can find coupons for Ichiban in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette as well as in local business supplements. Their current offerings include 10% off every dinner order, $10.00 off your birthday order, 15% off sushi dishes and 15% early bird discount (4:30 to 5:30) for dinner.
Prices: Here are some of the most popular menu items and their prices. These are subject to change at any time but they have remained the same for over a year. For the most part you are getting a relatively good size portion for the price but this is a dine-in atmosphere so you are paying more than you would if you went to a buffet / restaurant type combo.
Lunch: Beef Negimaki: $8.95
Chicken Katsu: $8.95
Sashimi Lunch (12 pieces): $11.95
Hibachi Steak, Salmon, Shrimp or Scallop: $9.95 each
Shrimp & Chicken: $11.95
They also offer a Maki Lunch for $7.95 that comes with soup or salad and your choice of two sushi rolls.
Dinner: Hibachi Chicken: $16.95
Steak & Shrimp: $22.95
Hibachi Scallops: $20.95
Filet Mignon & Scallops: $27.95
Lobster & Shrimp: $26.95
They are one of the few sushi restaurants that offer a kids menu; it isn’t plentiful with choices but the portions are great for the price. The dinners come with hibachi grilled vegetables, rice, noodles and ice cream. They offer chicken, shrimp, filet mignon and steak with prices ranging from $11.95 to $13.95.
My personal favorites include the Unagi Don and Beef Negimaki. The Tofu Teriyaki is a huge seller for them as well and is something that my vegetarian friends order almost every time we visit one of the three locations. If you are going to be snacking before your meal I highly suggest the Vegetable Tempura or the Tuna Tataki. Their miso soup is to die for and you get a generous portion regardless of whether you get it with a meal or as a side item. I always order a Kani Salad; it has the perfect blend of cucumber, crab meat and masago.
There are currently three locations in the Pittsburgh area. All three of them have their own unique feel to them but the food quality is all the same. Any coupons that are available for Ichiban can be used at all three locations unless they are a region specific or fundraising coupon.
