We had an opportunity to visit beautiful town of Petlad, situated in the Kheda district in Gujarat State of India. Petlad is the largest town of Kheda district and is situated at around sixty miles away from the city of Vadodara. The total population of this peaceful town of Petlad is around 30,000. Most of this population is of Patel community. Petlad was earlier covered in the Baroda State of Gaikwad rulers. Petlad is also a railway station and small narrow gauge trains are going towards Sojitra, Vaso, and Pij via Petlad. Petlad is a taluka head quarters and there are schools, hospitals and Municipal offices here.
There are regular State transport buses available for Petlad from Vadodara and other similar major cities of the Gujarat State. There are some ancient sites seeing places at Petlad. The most vital is Ramnath Kund. It is said that this holy water Kund was made by Lord Ram in Ramayana times. All the sins of the person taking a holy bath in this Kund are washed away immediately as per Hindu religion. This holy Kund is situated in the middle of the Petlad town. The temple of Ramnath Mahadev is situated at the bank of Ramnath Kund. This ancient temple of Lord Shiva is having lot of religious importance and many people, local as well as from all over India, visits this holy temple. The holy water from the Ramnath Kund is sprayed on top of the Lord Shiva Lingam continuously. Lot of people visits this temple to attend morning and evening arti rituals. The large fair is held here at this temple on Mahashivratri day every year, which is a birthday of Lord Shiva. There are couples of most popular excursions available from the town of Petlad. The prime excursion is Ashapuri Mata temple, situated at only 4 miles distance from the town of Petlad. Lots of Hindus have faith on this Ashapuri Mataji and that is why this temple has become a very important place of pilgrimage of Hindus. This temple is situated at the village of Piplav on the bank of a large pond of water. The temple is situated on a small mountain and you need to climb around 200 steps to reach to the temple. The statue of Mataji is very beautiful here and causes the religious and spiritual waves in your body when you see it. The view of the entire region from top of the temple is also eye catching. There is a very large fair held here every year at the temple in the Gujarati month of Maha (April as per English calendar). Thousands of people come here at that time at this temple and pray for the health and the wealth of their children. It is strongly believed that Ashapuri Mata shall fulfill all their pending wishes and desires. Many people also visit this famous and popular fair from all over the world. The local tribes present the most beautiful and colorful folk dances in the fair.
The water Kund of Kanisa is also near by. This water reservoir is situated at around two miles from the village of Sayama, on your way to the temple of Ashapuri Mataji. The bath in this water Kund cures almost all types of skin diseases, mainly Rakatapit. The sick people come from all over the country with deep faith to take holy bath in this water Kund and cure their skin diseases. Petlad has many reasonably good and clean hotels and guest houses for the tourists to stay. Hotel Ashapuri is the most famous hotel here at Petlad. It offers a nice double room at the rates of around Rs.500 ($10) per day, excluding all the meals. The meals are easily available in the nearby restaurants. However, mostly standard Gujarati meals are only provided. Such meals are quiet spicy and you must be careful at the time of ordering. It is advisable to carry your own supply of mineral drinking water as the quality of drinking water here is not very good.
