“I Am THE WAY, THE TRUTH, and THE LIFE ….” – John 14:6
Though this online ministry is still in its infancy, I am noticing the LORD moving things along with it and with His people. I say this because as we are the Body of Christ, many parts working as one. I feel God is establishing one mind with those whom he has called to lead and teach. I myself am not a leader but rather an instructor handing out the lessons God is giving me to those who seek. In my online communities I am noticing other instructors and leaders who have taught the same lessons God had me teach. It made me realize that YHVH is calling for specific messages at His appointed times to be sent out globally and locally. Right now I feel God is sending His leaders and teachers to send out the message on living a lie.
I was sitting here contemplating on what would be this week’s devotional, I must admit I was a bit concerned because I had just finished writing the 8-part series Knowing From Whence Our Help Comes for Fruits of the Spirit, when I heard one of my favorite Christian songs. I simply love the group Avalon and one of the songs that make me stop what I am doing is called I Don’t Want To Go. For the first time, after possibly thousands of playbacks, one line of the chorus just settled in me and inspired this week’s devotional.
I don’t want to go somewhere
if I know that You’re not there
Cause I know that me without You
Is a Lie
What a powerful proclamation, and what a very true one. I quoted Jesus from John 14:6 as the opener because He is the answer to how we live our lives. If we have Christ in our lives then our lives are true. However, having Christ in our lives is more than attending weekly worship services, Bible Studies, power nights, etc. It is about leading our lives in the same manner Jesus lead his.
Jesus kept all of the Father’s commands during his life. He boldly spoke the Word of God to the derision of others, yet he loved and showed compassion to all. Jesus forsook family for the will of God. He faced slander and derision for the will of God. He served God’s people for the will of God. Finally he allowed himself to be beaten and struck brutally a multitude of times and hung on the cross to die, for the will of God.
In all, Jesus lead his life according to the will of God. This is what we must do. The gospels show us how this life can be lead, the epistles advise us on how to continue along that path, and Revelation (though it is named as an epistle, it is first a prophetic message) tells us what will be the result of the choice we make concerning which path we take.
The path of truth, leads to living a life that is true which means we are living a life like Jesus, who is the Word of God which is the substance that gives us life. I know that was a lot for one sentence so let’s see it broken down but ry f you view it as a flow chart or circular pattern. The Word of God in flesh is Jesus, Jesus is the Word of God made flesh. The Bread of Life is Jesus, Jesus is the Bread of Life. Jesus is the Way, The Truth, and The Life. The Way, The Truth, and The Life are Jesus. Simply put, Jesus is the Way to lead a True Life!
Now where does the lie come in? When we do not believe, follow, and live our lives according to the way Christ lead his, then we are living a lie. In fact, we are not just living a lie, we are against Christ and following the Other. The Other is Satan (Lucifer, The Devil, Old Scratch, etc). In following Satan, one is not just living a lie, one is assuring their eternal death.
Satan is against God and Christ, therefore everything about him is in opposition to Them. We see Original Sinner (Pride was the first sin and Satan committed it), rebellion (when we disobey God we rebel against Him), Death (sin brings eternal death, separates man’s spirit from God), and lastly Lie (Satan is the Father of Lies). Satan means Accuser, and Satan does just that, he accuses God of being false. Think of the times when we want to do what is against God’s Word, Satan begins to accuse God’s Word as being false. “Well the Bible does not specifically say that you can’t gamble…..You’ve sinned before and you are still breathing aren’t you……..Your parents disrespected their parents and they are still alive aren’t they….” The accusations go on and on, but we as members of the Body of Christ know these accusations are false.
However, there are some who claim to be and there are some who were active members in the Body of Christ who are only conscious of God and Christ on Sunday, at Bible Study (if they attend), and when it benefits them. People of this nature are fooling many but mostly they are fooling themselves believing they are living a true life. Unfortunately for them, they can not fool God:
Do not be deceived and deluded and misled; God will not allow Himself to be sneered at (scorned, disdained, or mocked by mere pretensions or professions, or by His precepts being set aside.) [He inevitably deludes himself who attempts to delude God.] For whatever a man sows, that and that only is what he will reap. For he who sows to his own flesh (lower nature, sensuality) will from the flesh reap decay and ruin and destruction, but he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. – Galatians 6:7-8 Amplified Bible
Therefore to ensure we are making the best effort to live a life that is true, I am asking that we all, including myself, take a few days to examine our own selves. We will do this to find out if we are really trying to live a true life or if we are living a lie. Self examination is key (2 Corinthians 13:5). Also it is a good indicator that you either are trying to live a true life or want to live one is if we ask God to reveal the things we need to work on to live our lives in the truest manner: Like Jesus Christ.
