Matt . 14:27-33 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” 28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” 29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” 31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33 Then those who were in the the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.”
What kind of courage would it take to get out a boat and walk on the water? It sounds like an impossible task. However a fisherman by the name of Peter was willing to take God at his word. There was a great storm at sea that day. I’m sure that many were worried about their safety. Perhaps many thought that they would lose their lives. They were being tossed to and fro as the storm tried to overtake them. Peter saw Jesus through the storm. Peter wanted to know if it really was the Lord walking toward him. So Peter asked the question “”Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” So then the Lord answered Peter back with one word “Come”.
Peter heard one word from the Lord and he stepped out in faith. However as Peter stepped out in faith the circumstances became more real to him. He noticed that the wind was boisterous and he became afraid. He looked at the water and he started sinking. As He started to sink he cried out for the Lord to save him. Jesus Immediately stretched out his hand and caught him. Then Jesus spoke to Peter and said “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
The boat is a representation of your place of safety. However, as a boat ventures out on the water the storms and the wind will try to change its course. If we stay in the boat the wind and the waves may over take us. However, if we get out of the boat we can then rise above the storm. How can we rise above the storm? We must put our trust in the Lord and not the circumstances.
The enemy has sought to rock your boat! He has bombarded you with impossible circumstances. He has convinced you that your circumstances are too great. He has intimidated you to stay in your boat. However, Jesus is walking toward you on the water and saying “Come”. Will you stay in your boat and let the enemy convince you that this is your place of safety? Or, will you stop the voice of the enemy by getting out the boat and making your way toward Jesus.
Storms of life will come. It is during the storms of life that you need to believe God and trust Him. Peter realized that when he took his eyes off Jesus the circumstances seemed insurmountable. How many times have we looked at our circumstances and felt overwhelmed, afraid or discouraged?
What impossible circumstances are you facing in your life? Are you putting your trust in the Lord? Are you letting your circumstances decide for you? No matter what you may be facing God has a solution for your problem. He knows when the enemy rises up against you. He knows when the enemy wants to overwhelm, defeat and discourage you. I often tell the devil to sit down and shut up because with God all things are possible. Why? Because God said so.
As the last days approach, what are we doing to make sure that others hear the gospel? Are we willing to get out of our boats and trust the Lord? A boat may not be a comfortable place but it may represent a place of safety. We can’t let fear or intimidation stop us from what God has called us to do. He needs us all to take his love of the gospel everywhere we go. It is his words, not ours, that will change and transforms lives. We just have to be obedient and step out of our boats.
We will have opposition & persecution because the enemy does not want the gospel preached. However, when we are obedient; God will take care of our needs. Every day people are walking by us. We have a chance to reach them. The world is waiting to hear and all we have to do is be obedient and get out of our boats.
There is no greater joy then to give the gift of eternal life to another. It costs us nothing but a few moments of our time. There is a whole generation out there waiting to hear that God loves them. God’s harvest is waiting in the fields to be picked. The stage is set and the place settings are prepared. Jesus says go into the highways and the byways and compel the lost to come into his kingdom.
This is not the hour to worry about our circumstances. He said that every place that the soul of your foot shall tread I will give you. We need to start taking back territory that the enemy has claimed. The only way to do that is to preach the word of the Lord. Our greatest victory is waiting outside of our comfort zones. Our greatest harvest is in a field waiting to be plucked out of the hands of the enemy. Our greatest triumph is just outside our doors. Our greatest joy is to bring the saving message of Jesus Christ to everyone we meet.
He never said that the harvest would come to us, he said go to them. We are at a critical time on the biblical calendar. Darkness and evil seem to be overshadowing the gospel going forth. We cannot allow the enemy to take any more territory. However, it will take a mighty army of the Lord’s to stand up. We must proclaim and take back what the enemy has stolen. We do have a choice. We can sit in our boats and be tossed to and fro by our circumstances. Or, we can get out of our boats, march through the enemy’s territory and start claiming souls for Jesus. We will all leave this earth some day. The only thing we can take with us is SOULS! How will you make a difference? Yes, you can make a difference. God is waiting for the ones that will be obedient to hear his heart and to obey his voice. Will you GO! Proverbs 11:30 says The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise.
If you are born-again then it’s because someone was obedient to preach the gospel to you. Let me ask you a question, where would you be today if you had not heard the gospel? Has Jesus set you free? Has Jesus healed you? Has Jesus been there for you? Has Jesus changed your life?
Perhaps you are in the ministry. I ask you what drew you into the ministry. Is it because you wanted others to experience the freedom in Jesus Christ? Jesus led by example. He was willing to show his disciples by demonstrating to them the power of the gospel. Another gospel has no power and will not set anyone free. It is the words of Jesus Christ that can save, deliver and set free. You will have to be willing to offend the religious in order to set the captives free. Jesus over turned the tables of the money changers. Jesus cleared a room when he spoke. Jesus didn’t put up with the religious Pharisees and Saduchess. He called them white wash specula’s full of dead man’s bones. He called them vipers. He was bold and righteous and he got the job done.
The devil and his co-horts are allowed to stay because we tolerate them. There is only one way to get rid of them. We must preach the message of the cross and resurrection. The enemy has sown tares among the wheat. The enemy has disguised itself in sheep’s clothing. The best way to expose the tares, wolves and the devil is by hitting them hard right between the eyes. Jesus said to the devil “it is written”.
The clock is ticking and the enemy is advancing. God is calling us to bring the gospel to a lost and dying world. Perhaps your response is that you are not an evangelist or pastor. He didn’t say Go pastor or go evangelist, he just said GO. So, the responsibility does not just fall on a pastor or evangelist. If you only knew how God would use you. There are rewards waiting in heaven for those who hear and obey. You don’t have to be anything put yielded to his spirit and born again. You just have to let him break your heart for the lost. I have heard many say “that is not my calling”. Let me say this, whatever gifts you have God will use those gifts as you are ministering to others.
You have no idea how God wants to use every day ordinary people. Moses was ordinary, he stuttered and he was afraid, but God used him mightily. David, a shepherd boy turned out to be a mighty warrior and a man after God’s own heart. Esther was a woman willing to put her life in danger in order to save her people. The bible is full of ordinary people that have done extraordinary things for God. You destiny is calling you and all you have to do is say “here I am Lord, use me”. As you step out in faith and become a vessel that God can use, he will lead you to your individual purpose. If you could only see what God has waiting for you? If you only knew how God will use you to impact a generation. Oh, my friend, don’t miss out on the opportunities that God has for you. It all starts with an obedient heart that will reach out to others to deliver his words of salvation, healing and deliverance. Don’t miss it…all of heaven is counting on you to say Yes.
Now, let me address all those who are reading this. You don’t know where you would go if you died today. I have good news for you because Jesus died for you 2,000 years ago on a cross at Calvary. He died so that you could go free. You can’t earn your salvation by anything you do, you simply have to accept it and receive it by faith. My friend you have no guarantees as to how long you will be here on earth. If you would like to have eternal life with Jesus Christ, just say this prayer with your heart and lips out loud.
Dear Lord Jesus, come into my heart. Forgive me of my sin. Set me free. Jesus, thank you that you died for me. I believe that God raised you from the dead. Fill me with the Holy Spirit, the peace of God, and the joy of the Lord. Give me a passion to reach the lost, a hunger for the things of God, and a holy boldness to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. I’m saved, I’m born-again. I’m forgiven and I’m on my way to heaven because I have Jesus in my heart. Thank you Jesus.
When you asked Jesus to come into your heart and to forgive you, he heard you and did so. All of your sins are now forgiven. Always remember to run to God and NOT from God because he loves you and has a great plan for your life.
Luke 15:7 7 says I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.
Leave the ninety-nine to go after the one!
