A Jon and Kate announcement is getting a lot of attention as TLC has begun running promotions about their next episode of Jon and Kate Plus 8. The Jon and Kate announcement is of course rumored to be something about their situation as a couple, and some have even taken the leap to say it is an announcement of a Jon and Kate divorce. The Jon and Kate announcement certainly is intended to draw additional ratings, because TLC is really promoting the heck out of it, and not only that, the Jon and Kate announcement will be shown in place of their regularly scheduled episode on Monday night.
According to an article by Jessica Carlson, the next episode of Jon and Kate Plus 8 was supposed to be their planned Mother’s Day episode, where Kate Gosselin would be celebrating Mother’s Day with brunch at her favorite restaurant, followed by her packing up for a book tour. Instead of that being shown, the June 22nd episode of Jon and Kate Plus 8 is being advertised as a Jon and Kate Special, where some sort of announcement is going to be made about Jon and Kate Gosselin.
The promotions for this Jon and Kate announcement aren’t being quite clear about what will be happening on the special episode, but they are trying to lead viewers down a specific path with the obvious intent of the television commercials. TLC is selling the episode as depicting a family in turmoil, and trying to pump up the dramatic overtones about what exactly is going to be occurring. With inter-cut scenes of Jon and Kate Gosselin doing different things, the obvious assumption that TLC is trying to get viewers to think is that the Jon and Kate announcement could surround a divorce between the two of them. Honestly it is a bit shameless as a promotion, but it is going to do exactly what TLC wants, and that is to bring in more viewers.
With the Jon and Kate announcement buzz, there are a lot of questions that fans will want answered, and to get those answers TLC knows that people will have to tune in to the newest Jon and Kate Plus 8 episode. This really seems like a trick to increase ratings and sell more commercials, because it is very similar to things that TLC has tried in the past in order to increase the awareness of the show on specific nights. The additional thought is that if something were actually going to really happen that would be “huge” that it would have leaked to the press in some form already. With the non-stop coverage of everything that has to do with Kate Gosselin, it seems farfetched that TLC actually has a surprise for viewers with the Jon and Kate announcement.
