It’s hard enough for any married couple with just one child to find time for themselves alone. But when there is eight children involved, an intimate relationship without interference is next to impossible. How can a married couple really bond when a child needs attention? They can’t. So it should not be a surprise that America’s famous couple Jon and Kate Gosselin has emotionally split up.
A recent report says that the couple have even physically split up, with Jon spending time in Hackensack, New Jersey, while his wife Kate was on a ferry with her bodyguard and the eight children headed towards Bald Head Island off the coast of North Carolina. Stereotypes aside, it looks like the man of the family is able to have time for himself, while the wife is stuck with the children, although unlike so many other wives, Kate does have a bodyguard although it is not known why she really needs one. It’s not like someone is going to kidnap her eight kids. Maybe she needs a bodyguard to ward off other guys who might hit on her. People like myself question why there is a second man in the picture. It’s not surprising the press had a field day insinuating that Kate has had a relationship with Steve Nield. But some people do not care about public appearance, especially when they are famous like the Gosselins. Then there is the story of Jon’s late night partying with college girls and a woman named Deanna Hummel. One thing is for sure: the honeymoon is over with, and once again, those who suffer the most are the children.
As desperate as Kate was for a child when she married Jon Gosselin, she was unable to have one without the aid of fertility treatments. Kate had polycystic ovary syndrome, which prevented her from being able to have a child naturally. The first fertility treatment resulted in twins, and the second one, in sextuplets. Luckily for Kate, all six babies survived the complicated birth. Having the reality show “Jon and Kate Plus Eight” certainly helped pay the hospital bills and the most basic of necessities for the eight babies. Just think of all the exhaustion after taking care of eight children every day of the week. At that rate, a breakup of some kind in the relationship is inevitable. So much for the belief that having a baby, let alone eight, cements a relationship.
Jon and Kate Gosselin, for the sake of their children, will part on good terms and continue to see each other. Jon will have child support like he didn’t imagine possible (he’s no Desmond Hatchet) but still, he is not in an enviable position. Neither is Kate Gosselin in an enviable position. Some Americans will laught at them, while others might cry. The rest will just say “Thank God I don’t have to go through that.”
