It’s 11:00pm in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and you have nothing to eat in the house. It’s been a long day. Something inside you is telling you to “eat”!
Might I suggest pizza? Michello’s Pizzeria, located in Marion, is a perfect choice. Open 4pm to 4am (excluding Sundays), Michello’s offers a lot more than a typical pizza joint. You can get a 14-inch quesadilla for $3.00, complete with sour cream and salsa on the side. Their pizza is really good, but nothing beats their calzones. The location is easy to miss if you don’t know where you’re looking, but their 7th Avenue location offers the best late night fix around. Available for dine-in, delivery, or carry-out. Also available are discounts – for more information on discounts, follow this link:
If you’re on the Northeast side of town, you’re probably familiar with the Starlite Room. It’s been a local favorite (and family owned) for years. Though they are a bar, there is a separate room for those who care to dine. They have huge hamburgers, breaded mushrooms to die for, and you get a unique dining experience. Nothing really compares to the Starlite Room – it’s worth the trip at any time of the day (or night).
Pizza Daddy, also located in Cedar Rapids, offers delivery at both of their locations, on the Northwest and Southeast sides of town. Much like Michello’s Pizzeria, they are open from 4pm to 4am everyday. Pizza Daddy caters to many college students, but their menu is extremely versatile. One could order a gyro, follow it with Bosco sticks, and finish with a handmade pizza. For more information, you can visit their convenient website:
Perkins Restaurants are open 24-hours on Fridays and Saturday nights, and for anyone that loves pie, this is the place to go. You may not be able to have it delivered, but dessert to go is always satisfying no matter what time of day it is. Since the smoking ban has been put into place, Perkins has an improved atmosphere that’s suitable for any taste. They have a menu that includes breakfast items, quesadillas, desserts, typical American cuisine, and some fish items. On Sunday through Thursday, however, they are only open until 10pm.
If these options don’t tickle your fancy, don’t forget about drive-thru locations such as Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Steak ‘n’ Shake, and Burger King. They offer quick, satisfying options, and you won’t have to change out of your pajamas. Most Burger Kings offer veggie burgers, and so for the health-conscious, that is an excellent choice.
For some folks, food made at the house will always be the best choice. If that is the case, a quick visit to Hy-Vee or Wal-Mart (both open 24 hours a day) should do the trick.
