VoIP phone services have been around for a while. VoIP stands for voice over internet protocol.
Basically you are talking over the internet. Vonage and Magic Jacks are two products on the market today that most people have heard of that use the internet to handle your phone calls.
The 1phone product powered by Covista, as seen advertised on the RTN channels, is the latest to enter the market place for internet voice traffic. Its base price will be 9.95 a month and then a penny a minute for all phone calls placed in the US and Canada. There is an unlimited local plan of 12.95 and then a penny a minute for long distance call offered as well. Features such as voice mail, call forwarding, 3way calling along with others are standard with the 1phone product.
Features that are rather unique to the 1phone product though are “find me follow me” and the ability to have up to 4 different phone numbers assigned to the 1phone device.
The “find me follow me” feature provides a way for you to ring all your phones with the number from your 1phone. For example you can have your number ring your cell phone, your parent’s home while you are visiting, or any other phone you will be near. Once you answer the call all phones stop ringing. A couple of things to note about this feature, if you answer the call on any phone other than the phone attached to the 1phone device you will be charged a penny a minute for the call. If you answer with your cell phone you may have your cell phone charge, unless you have a way to get free phone calls on your cell from friends and family, and a 1phone charge. Having the peace of mind that you only have to give people one phone number to remember for you, instead of two or three, make a penny a minute worth it.
Why have multiple phone numbers ringing to your home? Try this example. You live in one state; your parents live in another state, your siblings in another. Any phone call between you and your family is a long distance call as we all well know. Now, on the 1phone product you can have a phone number that is local to you, local to your parents, and local to your siblings. Then your parents and your siblings can call you for free. Your calls to them will be the penny a minute charge. You may be using your cell phones today, and have your family set up as free calls, but talking on that small cell phone can be difficult at times, especially for small children. Now you can have a regular phone receive the call making it easy for those grandchildren to talk to grandparents with the cost of the call being free.
Aggressive international rates, with some being as low as two cents a minute are available with the one phone product.
Phone calls between any 1phone customers to 1phone customer will be free. For 9.95 a month, plus applicable tax charges, you can talk to your family in those other states for hours if you both have the 1phone product.
There is a shipping and activation charge for the 1phone product. The charge though can be spread over 4 months.
You must have high speed internet provided by a cable company or telephone company for the 1phone to work at your home. Satellite high speed internet or dial up will not work. You must also have a valid credit card or bank account to purchase this product.
The company, Covista, that is marketing the product ,has been in the telecom business for over 25 years.
