Let’s start with the basics and then we can get fancy. What you need is the empty roll of toilet paper, something to put into the roll as the treat, some sort of paper to wrap up the roll, and something to tie off the ends of the roll. Then all you need is a reason to give the party favors away! I’ll walk you through a few different ideas and then you can think of new ideas all on your own!
Note: Make sure when you wrap the roll you leave at least 3 inches of wrap extending on both sides of the roll so you can tie off the ends. This makes the party favor much more festive. But there are times when you want the ends closed like in my Forth of July example below.
Birthday: Fill the roll with wrapped candy. Wrap it with birthday party wrapping paper (this is a great way to use up leftover pieces of paper or to recycle paper that has already been used!). Tie the ends off with gift ribbon and curl the ribbon with your scissors just as you would when wrapping a gift! Put one of these party favors on the plate of each guest and watch their eyes twinkle when they see their pretty party favor! You could even attach a card with each guest’s name printed on it and use as a place card. And you can write “thank you for coming to my party” inside the card!
Halloween: Cover the roll with orange construction paper and cut off the ends so it’s even with the roll. You can glue the construction paper on the roll or simply attach with scotch tape. Fill the roll with wrapped candy. Then cover the roll with black netting (go to the fabric department… netting is dirt cheap!) and leave the ends long. Tie the ends with orange yarn or orange ribbon. Give these special treats to kid’s who come to the door and you will soon become the house every kid goes to for trick or treat!
Christmas: Fill the roll with wrapped candy or a small gift. Wrap with colorful Christmas wrapping paper (save all the paper that gets ripped off the gifts this year to reuse next year!). Tie the ends with ribbon and curl the ribbon just like you would when you wrap a gift. Put these party favors in your Christmas stockings or you can even hang them in the tree! Another idea… you can close the ends flat and cut a flame shape out of yellow construction paper. Stick the flame into one end of the roll and stand it up like a candle!
Forth of July: Fill the roll with candy or gifts and cover it with red construction paper. But for this roll tape the ends flat so it looks like a roll of coins. On one end stick a piece of pipe cleaner to make it look like the wick of a fire cracker! Pow! You have a great Forth of July party favor!
Now that you have the basic idea on how to make your own party favors you can probably think of many other containers you can use. Use a paper towel roll for a longer version of the toilet paper party favor. Use an empty can with both sides cut out for a wider version. You can even make your own rolls by curling up a piece of card stock and taping it closed. What fun!
