Monsters Inc., a 3D animation movie created by Pixar animation studio, reviving an old myth about our closet¾that there’s a monster living in a closet. Well, it’s close to that, but monsters don’t live in our closet. Instead, they’re living in a town called Monstropolis. And, the town has a power company which produces energy from children’s screams. The screams are obtained by monsters that popping out in children bedroom from inside the closet and scare them. This is why the company has every closet’s door from all over the world. And apparently, this is how the myth started.

This scaring-children thing seems to be easy, but the company is facing a problem when children are not easily scared anymore. Power shortage is likely to be happened and even the top scarer, Sully (John Goodman) cannot mend this crisis. The conflicts begin when Randall (Steve Buscemi), the chameleon-like monster wants to be the top scarer. So, he takes another door and scares another child when the company is closed and no one is looking. But, Randall made a mistake and let a little girl out of the closet into Monstropolis. This is where the chaos begins since human children are considered toxic and lethal (this is ironic because monsters live to scare children).

Sully and his partner, Mike Wazowsky (Billy Crystal) plan to put the girl back to where she belongs even though they don’t know who let this little girl to Monstropolis in the first place. Later, they call her Boo because she likes to say boo to them. The comedy flows throughout the movie while they take care of Boo. As they’re getting close to her, they find out that human child is not harmful.

The climax happen when their effort to get Boo back home is interrupted with the evil Randall. The chase between Randall and Sully-Mike-Boo is very thrilling. Of course this is a happy-ending movie, but still, there is a surprise connected to the owner of Monsters Inc. at the end.

The comedy of this movie mostly twist from the real world. Like the company’s slogan “We Scare Because We Care” or “Stalk” and “Don’t Stalk” traffic sign referring to “Walk” and “Don’t Walk” sign. Other comedy that I consider to be original one is that there is so many extras at the end credit of this movie like the never-before scene on non-animation movie. Even though this movie is design for children, there are many comedy that can be understood only by adults. But, I believe this is to keep the parents on their seats while watching with their children.

We might be talking about comedy and story here. But, the most important thing of all is the animation’s quality because this is an animated movie. The computer graphic here takes the main role for the movie. Seeing the following movies of Disney-Pixar, “Toy Story”, “Toy Story 2” and “A Bug’s life”, the graphic in this movie is much more sophisticated though the detail is not wide-ranging. Only the hair of Boo and Sully’s fur is detailed and focused. Other monsters just have the simple shape like matte toy or even blob.

Overall, this movie is perfect for a family holiday watch. Don’t have to worry that you don’t know how to buy the DVD, because I have given the lists of websites where you can purchase the DVD online.
