Quite a few years ago, the movie What Women Want featured a man who was suddenly able to hear women’s thoughts. If that movie was set on Mother’s Day, I have a pretty good idea of what those women would be thinking. The main thing any woman wants is a day off. A day off from what? A day off from everything. That’s what women really want.
A day off from dishes
Never underestimate the power of a man with his hands in soapy dishwater. What woman wouldn’t want a man who gives her a day off from dishes? Do the dishes all day for your wife, girlfriend or mother. Better yet, buy her a dishwasher if she’s the type that would be receptive to it. She deserves it. Just don’t forget to pick up some flowers too.
A day off from parenting
Most mothers are naturally nurturing. They spend their days shuffling kids from place to place, wiping noses, changing diapers and handing out discipline. What women really want on Mother’s Day is a day off from the endless tasks of motherhood. How about hiring or being the babysitter on her special day? Mom can relax and do whatever strikes her fancy.
A day off from cooking
You better believe that women want to be taken out to dinner on Mother’s Day. Taking a day off from cooking is just the ticket for any mom. If dinner out isn’t in the budget, order a pizza. A selfless Mother’s Day gift would be a home cooked meal she didn’t have to make. It doesn’t need to be fancy, as long as she doesn’t have to do the work. If possible, try to cook her favorites.
A day off from planning
There is nearly nothing worse than women planning their own Mother’s Day or birthday party celebration. Make sure this doesn’t happen to your mother, wife or girlfriend. Beat them to the punch by planning a surprise party. Send her off to have fun with friends while the house gets festive. Don’t skimp on balloons and streamers. Make this day special.
A day off from pampering others
A day off from pampering others can be replaced with a day of pampering for her. Send her off to the hair salon, manicurist, masseuse, or all three. Families on a budget can give Mom a gift of inexpensive beauty products and several interrupted hours to pamper herself. The massage would be a great gift from Dad, once the kids are in bed.
