NCAA Tournament odds are already out, as the gambling portion of the NCAA Tournament begins. Along with the unofficial gambling of NCAA office pools, NCAA odds are also being laid down in Las Vegas. By those NCAA tournament odds, the North Carolina Tar Heels will take their second Final Four crown under Roy Williams.
According to Sportsbook, the Tar Heels are +300 odds to win the NCAAs, just above the other four number 1 seeds. North Carolina is always up there to win it all, having been to the Final Four last year. However, it is Louisville who was made the number 1 overall seed, after winning the Big East tournament.
For their part, the Cardinals are the second favorite to win it all, as their NCAA odds are +500. The Cardinals have been to a Final Four and an Elite 8 in this decade, and are a number 1 seed for the first time in decades. After being overshadowed by Pitt and Connecticut all season, Louisville is now more favored in the NCAAs than the both of them.
The only other teams to be favored in NCAA odds with under +1,000 odds are Pittsburgh, Connecticut and Memphis. Pittsburgh has +700 odds, with both Connecticut and Memphis at +800. Connecticut and Memphis are both in the same region, so the odds on the both of them getting out of the West region will be pretty close.
The NCAA odds heavily favor the top seeds, in a year after all four number 1 seeds made it to the Final Four. That had never happened before, although fans seem to expect it to happen again this year.
Trailing below the five favorites in betting odds are second seeds like Michigan State, Duke, Oklahoma and Syracuse. All of a sudden, the Orangemen have jumped from afterthoughts to Final Four sleeper in the odds.
The odds are about the same in Las Vegas, as North Carolina is a 4-1 favored pick to win it all on the Las Vegas Hilton books. Louisville is again placing second at 5-1, followed by Pitt and Connecticut at 7-1 each. Memphis trails at 12-1.
Though these five favorites are the safe bets in the early NCAA odds, fans will still be bound to place big money on possible underdogs, in hopes of winning bigger if they do shock the NCAA tournament. But when it comes to picking who wins the whole thing, fans are better off following the NCAA odds on the favorites by Final Four time.
