President Obama met with his Economic Recovery Advisory Board on Wednesday morning. It was made available to the country via live feed at http://www.whitehouse.gov/live/ .
What is the Goal?
The Economic Recovery Advisory Board has the goal of pulling the nation from the recession we currently find ourselves in by creating good economic policy, job growth and creation, green energy initiatives, small business growth, and exportable products.
What was addressed?
The focus of the meeting was how we as a nation can build a more competitive economy and a stronger economy. Within this topic they correctly see green energy and green jobs as the future as well as the best way to get citizens back to work. The board members each contributed a unique view and were able to provide recommendations on how to enhance the strength and competitiveness of the nation’s economy through the creation of a comprehensive energy plan that will generate millions of clean energy jobs.
Every sector of the economy is on this board. President Obama received feed back from the point of view of real estate, finance, insurance, banking, and small business just to name a few.
Not only are they thinking about what to do but how to do it to. They want to make the most impact on the economy and on the daily lives of Americans. The Economic Recovery Advisory Board is also looking for ways to change the thought process around these issues as we move towards green energy and the creation of green products for export.
What can we expect now?
A bill is in the works! It sounds like this is going to address green energy growth in the nation and create jobs. The potential bill should also address creating clean technology for the USA and for export, this should create jobs for manufacturing and construction workers who are currently out of work. These jobs should also have the potential to move the poor and disenfranchised to good middle class manufacturing jobs to replace the jobs that have been lost in manufacturing and construction. To make this happen the bill will also attempt to address making credit available to companies and small businesses, growing small business, assisting with union formation in these growth industries, and how this will impact the green energy goals of the country.
The country is moving towards the green energy President Obama talked about in his campain. Citizens need to understand that there are some initial costs to this kind of country wide investment, but the President and his advisory team know that these green energy initiatives and green jobs will pay for them selves in time. As laid off workers get to new jobs they will be paying takes instead of pulling from unemployment. The long term costs of energy will go down for all citizens when the initial investment is paid off and the sun and wind remain free for the energy companies to harness. His open door policy for information to the people of the US is refreshing.
One thing that was stated over and over were ways that the committee members wanted President Obama to use his “bully pulpit”, so over all the discussion was kept moving, and the statements were engaging, not like the typical city council meeting.
