Another week and another evening to indulge. You have gotten rid of any outside distractions and are ready to pamper. Grab that box of Godiva chocolates and head to the kitchen to make your self a Pink Orchid, a hip twist on the standard Piña Colada. You’ll also find the ingredients for tonight’s Beauty Night.
Pineapple contains the natural enzyme bromelain. Bromelain is a protein-digesting enzyme that removes dead skin cells, surface dirt, and oils – all of which are necessary for healthy and beautiful skin. Bromelain can also dry skin, so you should moisturize after pineapple beauty treatments. Pineapple is high in anti-oxidants. It is a very good source of Vitamin C, manganese, and thiamine (Vitamin B1). The sugars and alpha hydroxyl acids in pineapple give skin anti-ageing benefits. Pineapple can be applied topically as an anti-inflammatory agent to treat bruises and swelling.
Only make as much as you need for one treatment, unless otherwise instructed. These recipes do not contain chemicals to prevent the natural ingredients from souring.
2 oz. Pineapple Juice
1 1/4 oz. Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum
1/4 oz. Coco Lopez
2 oz. Cranberry juice
Blend with crushed ice. Serve in a margarita glass. Garnish with fresh mint.
Pineapple Exfoliating Mask
4 large pineapple chunks
½ c canned pineapple, drained
3 T olive oil
Using a blender, blend all the ingredients until the mix is smooth. Apply on the face and leave on for 15 minutes.
Rinse well and pat dry.
Pineapple Bruise Treatment
Apply warmed pineapple juice to affected area twice a day until the inflammation is gone. This should speed the healing of injuries that will result in a large bruise or an inflamed area of skin.
Piña Colada Foot Treatment
Very warm to hot water
2-3 c pineapple juice
½ c coconut milk
Place enough water in a footbath container to cover your feet. To that, add pineapple juice. Add coconut milk and stir well. Soak feet 10 minutes. Use a pumice stone or foot scrub gently on callused, rough, and dry areas. Towel dry and apply a moisturizer while still damp. Put on cotton socks to protect feet by sealing the newly exfoliated skin. Wear the socks overnight to awaken with softer feet.
¼ of one fresh pineapple
2 c seltzer or sparkling mineral water
Puree fresh pineapple in food processor or blender until smooth and creamy and measures about 1 cup. You can also use fresh pineapple juice. Transfer juice to a plastic bowl. Mix pineapple and seltzer. Use as a final rinse in the shower after washing. Use a sponge or washcloth and squeeze the pineapple water over skin and hair. Rinse well with warm water, making sure all the pineapple water is gone. Pat dry. Apply moisturizer liberally. This is a great treatment for oily skin or skin with acne. You can also use flat seltzer water or flat mineral water.
Pineapple Cuticle Softener
1 egg yolk
2 T fresh pineapple juice
Mix egg yolk and pineapple juice. Stir well. Spread mixture on cuticles and let sit for 5 minutes. Use a cotton-covered orange stick or cotton swab and gently push back cuticles. Rinse with warm water to remove the mixture. Massage some coconut oil or rich hand cream into your hands.
