The Powerex MH-C9000 WizardOne Battery Charger and Analyzer is an all in one device for not only charging rechargeable batteries but also breaking in and refreshing them. The charger works as a simple charger when just inserting batteries and you can use the simple controls to choose refresh, break in, discharge and cycle modes.
The Powerex WizardOne comes with the charger and power adapter as well as instructions for a simple and complete charger that can handle all your nickel metal hydride and nickel cadmium batteries. The charger handles all NiMH and NiCD rechargeable batteries in AA and AAA size with any amperage for charging that is selectable from the handy controls below the large backlit LCD screen.
The WizardOne charger is simple to use to not only charge but refresh used batteries and break in new ones as well as discharge batteries if you want. The discharge mode may not be the most used feature but it does work well for depleting batteries at whatever rate you want.
There is also a cycle mode that will charge and discharge batteries that you can set with different charge and discharge rates. The discharge is easy to program as well as all the functions with the easy to use buttons that allow selection of the slot, mode and easy navigation buttons.
When you place batteries in the charger it automatically will start to charge the batteries at the appropriate amount according to the analyzer. You can select the slots of the batteries that charge, discharge and refresh independently using the slot and mode buttons.
You can have four batteries doing different things in the charger so you can select different modes for each slot and have four separate operations on each slot. This means no having to match batteries when deciding what to do with each one or waiting till you get four batteries you want to do the same thing on.
You just press the mode button on each slot and change the mode from one to the next and even set the rates according to what you want. You can select from .2 amps up to 2 amps to charge batteries but it is wise to not always charge at the higher rating due to excessive heat build up at these higher amps.
The Powerex WizardOne has temperature and timer protection as well as negative delta V sensing or when a drop in voltage is measured to sense the maximum capacity. The charger not only analyzes batteries when charging for maximum capacity but you can use the various modes to analyze them yourself.
When a rechargeable battery has been used for awhile the chemical reaction gets weak but can be refreshed by a charge discharge cycle and the one refresh mode does just this. You can also test the batteries using the refresh analyze and break in modes to check the batteries and see if they are of use anymore.
Simply put batteries in the charger and change the mode on each battery to the Analyze Refresh mode and the charger will check out the batteries and give you a result that displays as discharge capacity. This number is the same as the batteries are rated such as 2600 mAh and should be close to the rating for the batteries or you should consider recycling the batteries.
As to when you should get rid of them that is something that I really could not find on the internet but could tell you simply, when it no longer is useable in your device, chuck it, or recycle it. If you are having problems with a battery holding a charge try your hand at analyze and refresh then try using the break in mode to see what rating the battery charger gives you.
If the battery charger is saying the battery is anything less than about half what the rating is I would definitely replace that one. If it is up toward the rating on the battery then I would try it in the device or in another less draining one to see if it would work but if it does not then get rid of it.
The battery manufacturers do not really publish any lower ratings of batteries to tell you when you should be throwing them which is fine as you can go by the device you use them in and whether they work for it. The WizardOne Battery Charger shows you a good indication of battery condition as well as charging batteries, refreshing them and keeping them charged for quick use.
You can also use the Powerex WizardOne for maintaining batteries at a constant trickle charge for instant use to keep a set of batteries at the ready. The WizardOne will continue to trickle charge batteries in the charger using a 10 milli amp rate after the batteries have been charged.
This makes a great use for keeping a set of batteries always topped off and ready for those high drain devices like digital cameras. The WizardOne is a great all around charger for not only charging and keeping batteries ready but as a maintenance system for breaking in and refreshing batteries to prolong their lifetime.
The Powerex WizardOne Charger-Analyzer does a great job at charging and keeping rechargeable batteries at the peak of performance whether their new or used. I highly recommend the WizardOne Battery Charger-Analyzer from Powerex as an all around rechargeable battery system.
