When you live in a town with a little over 5,000 people you are lucky to have a lot of things that most big city folks would just take for granted. One thing that the town’s people of Macon, Missouri are fortunate to have is public tennis parks. The town has had some courts for quite a while, but it hasn’t been until the past few years that these parks have been worth playing on. Sure they aren’t probably as fancy as ones you would find in Kansas City or St. Louis, but these courts are nice and will accommodate anyone within the Macon, Missouri area looking to play some tennis.
There are two different locations available to play tennis at in Macon. The first location and by far the best is south of town on highway 63. The courts are located in between the Historical Lakeview Towers & Apartments and the Longbranch Area YMCA. At this location there are 3 available courts to play on. Two of these courts have lights for night games while the other one doesn’t. The courts are standard size and have an asphalt surface that is covered in a green surface for the playing area and a red surface on the perimeter. There are some benches and picnic tables for people interested in watching, but unfortunately there is no seating for a large group of spectators. There are no restrooms beside the park, however, the Longbranch Area YMCA is within walking distance and has restrooms within it’s lobby. To access the tennis courts you should park in the YMCA parking lot and then you can walk to them.
The other location containing public tennis courts west of Macon, Missouri on Noll Drive. These courts are located directly behind the Macon Municipal Swimming Pool. At this location there are two available courts. They are similar in size and design to the courts on the highway, however, there are no restrooms located on site or within walking distance. There are no lights at this location either, so night games aren’t an option. There are a few benches for people to rest on, but no large capacity seating. To access these courts you need to get onto highway 36 and travel west. You will then take the Longbranch Lake exit and take a right. You will travel on this street for a few hundred feet and then take a right onto Noll Dive. The courts are located on the left side of the street. Just enter the Macon Municipal Swimming Pool parking lot and drive around back.
So if you are in Macon, Missouri and are looking to play some tennis, gather up your friends and head over to one of these locations. Please make sure though that if you use the courts you remove any trash you brought and try to keep the courts nice so everyone can continue to enjoy them.
