The White House blog announced this afternoon that the Vice President will be visiting Colorado. The Vice President Biden is coming to Denver, Colorado, on 05/26/2009 as chair of the Middle Class Task Force. They will be meeting at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, the same location where President Obama signed a new bill earlier this year.
Who are they?
The MCTF is a group of individuals charged with the task of “raising the living standards of middle-class, working families in America”. The task force is Chaired by Vice President Biden and includes experts from “Health and Human Services, Education… Housing and Urban Development … as well as the Directors of the National Economic Council, the Office of Management and Budget, the Domestic Policy Council, and the Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers” (WHB 01/30/2009). They have come together with the goal of increasing educational opportunities, “improving work and family balance”, improving workplace safety, protecting incomes, and securing retirement for the middle-class. (WHB 01/30/2009)
What have they done so far?
This will be their 4th meeting. They have met to discuss the prospects for good middle-class jobs in the green energy sector, how the Recovery Act will assist Middle-class Americans in keeping their homes, and in the third meeting they addressed there research on making college affordable to the middle-class. (WHB 05/22/2009)
What are they going to talk about?
At the May 26th meeting in Denver, Colorado, the agenda is to move forward on the discussion from the first task force meeting. That meeting addressed the possibility of green jobs to replace the manufacturing and construction jobs that have been lost over the past year. As President Obama signed the Recovery Act he created more possibilities to be addressed. The upcoming meeting on May 26th, 2009 will move to address these possibilities and to make the most of them to create positive impact for the people of the United States of America. Their goal for this meeting is to assist the nation, economy and the American middle class in making the most of these opportunities.
The impressive roster of attendees will include, Labor Secretary, HUD Secretary, Secretary of Agriculture, Deputy Secretary of Energy, US Trade Representatives, and the Special Adviser for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation at the White House Council on Environmental Quality (WHB 05/22/2009). These competent minds have got most areas of intelligence covered, but it may not be enough – they may need your input.
How can I participate and make my voice heard?
They are actually encouraging opinions from the public. If you have any suggestions for them on how to answer these pressing questions, or other issues that you would like to see them address, contact them! Their website states “Please share your story with us and give us ideas for how to get the middle class going again”. (WHB 01/30/2009)
