If you want to add some zing to your summer holiday the Jamaica Reggae Sumfest Music Festival is a great way to start! Reggae Sumfest celebrates its 17th anniversary in fine style with a line up of illustrious artistes for its’ 2009 pizzazz. The event takes place in tourist haven Montego Bay, Jamaica unfolding over a seven day period July 19th to 25th kicking off with its annual media launch in New York on June 11th , and an after party in Manhattan.
Come July 19th Fans are able to relax and enjoy the Jamaican sands, sun, water and pulsating music at the beach party then rest up for the night-till-dawn shows as follows:
Dancehall Night – Thursday July 23rd
Features local seasoned stars Lady Saw, Vybz Kartel, Mavado and Elephant Man; Excellence in Music and Entertainment (EME)2009 winners I-Octane (Most Improved Artiste) and Konshens (Best New Artiste) known for his popular hit song “Winner“.
International Night – Friday July 24th
The first of two international nights Friday features a mix of Jamaican and international stars including Jasmine Sullivan (International Friends of Reggae Awardee), Jah Cure and Morgan Heritage.
International Night – Saturday July 25th
Saturday is the last night of Reggae Sumfest and usually lives up to the “save the best for last” crescendo. Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley, Nas, Taurus Riley and Etana are some of the ‘must see’ acts.
Earlier last month organisers of the event, Summerfest Productions, were awarded Promoter of the Year at the 2009 International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) in New York. “This is evidence that we’re doing something right with Reggae Sumfest” Johnny Gourzong, executive director of Summerfest Promotions said after collecting the award.
With an impressive reputation of creating the world’s greatest showcase of reggae music and undoubtedly the biggest party of the summer (Caribbean style) patrons are sure to indulge in three nights filled with dazzling performances highlighted with great and positive energy.
Ticket prices range from US$15-US$50, patrons can also visit the festival’s facebook page to get the latest updates, access to exclusive content including information on all-inclusive travel packages, and interact with Sumfest organizers.
Last year, Sumfest fans were left gasping for more after witnessing a mind-boggling performance from Akon who kept his security personnel busy for the entire performance and leapt from the stage at one point into the crowd!
