Located at 1321 South College Mall Road, Mr. Penguin’s Tuxedos is one of only a small handful of tuxedo rental businesses in Bloomington, Indiana, and is generally considered a trustworthy establishment by the community.
My husband and I were married in July of 2008. Many friends and relatives recommended Mr. Penguin’s Tuxedos to us for rental use in our wedding. We visited the business in early April of 2008 with a few simple questions and in hopes of establishing an appointment in which the three men (my husband included) in the wedding party could come and be fitted for tuxedos.
Upon entering the building, we instantly noticed that a few high school couples were in the store, apparently being fitting for tuxedos for the upcoming prom season. We waited patiently for the saleswoman to finish up with the young customers, who were speaking very loudly and had basically taken over the store.
After waiting for approximately twenty minutes, the saleswoman had finally finished up with the loud and rude high school kids. Just as we were approaching the counter, two more high school aged young men entered the building, brushed past us, and asked whether or not an appointment was required for them to be fitted for tuxedos for prom. The saleswoman, who had refused to even acknowledge our presence since we entered the store, proceeded to begin to wait on these two young men.
I finally spoke up and politely reminded the saleswoman and young men that we had been waiting for some time and that we only had a few questions and then we would be on our way. The saleswoman asked what we needed, and before my husband could even manage to explain that we did not need the tuxedos until late July, she responded, annoyed, “We can’t service anyone this time of year. Can’t you see that it’s prom season?”
After waiting patiently for nearly thirty minutes, this terrible and hateful “customer service” is all that we were offered. We told her to forget about it, that Mr. Penguin’s had just lost a customer, and we left, quite dissatisfied and irritated with the experience.
Whether or not the saleswoman was very busy and annoyed with the rude high school aged customers that she had to deal with should not factor into the way that she treated other customers. And if this particular business could not accommodate additional tuxedo needs during prom season, why wasn’t such information advertised somewhere within the store?
I would not recommend Mr. Penguin’s Tuxedo’s to anyone, whether it be for wedding, prom, or special occasion rentals.
A bad experience
