For many years I would purchase the Efferdent Denture Cleaning tablets and pay between $5 and $6 for them. The past couple of years, I have used the Equate brand instead. Although Wal-Mart have been raising their prices recently, they are still a bargain, at $2.77 for 90 tablets.
Wal-Mart have them in a plain white box, with all the information, details, instructions, and diagrams, in big enough writing that I can read it.
Inside the box are the 90 tablets. They come in sleeves of 6 tablets, and are perforated, so that you can use them individually.
I always use my Equate Denture Cleanser with baking soda, when I am about to take my shower. The reason being that I am very conscious of not having teeth in my mouth. Unfortunately I lost my teeth when I was in my early twenties, so it has been almost 40 years, that I have had to take care of dentures.
I have several of the denture containers, that you can use, when soaking your teeth. I fill one of these two thirds full with warm water. I take the sleeve and tear off one of the tablets. I then tear the end of it so that the tablet shows through. This I drop into the container of warm water. The water is blue and effervescing, and it is suggested that you leave the dentures in the solution, for 15 minutes. The time mine stays in varies, as to whether I am washing my hair, or just taking a shower, but I do leave them in for a minimum of 15 minutes.
If you are a person that doesn’t like sleeping in your dentures, you can in fact, leave them in the solution overnight. It will do them no harm.
When the fifteen minutes is up, or when I am ready to take them out, I just take either the bottom or the top denture, and rinse it in warm water. I do the same with the other part. It is suggested that you rinse them in running water, but I put the stopper in the bottom of the basin, as we have a water shortage in our part of Florida.
What Equate have to say about their product:
“Destroys 99.9% of odor-causing bacteria in one soak
Whitens and brightens
Strong against stubborn stains”
Their diagram of how to use this product, shows the dentures being placed in a glass, so if you don’t have a denture container then this works just as well.
Most warnings on products are so obvious that it isn’t worth repeating them, but these tablets should be kept in a dry, cool place. Also do not put tablets or denture cleaning solution in your mouth. These should not be used to clean regular teeth. One warning I will make is, really ensure that you rinse the dentures well, you do not want this solution in our mouth.
I love the fact that I can clean my dentures just by soaking them. Sometimes I do need a toothbrush, to remove food that water will not work on, before putting them in the dish of solution.
My dentures always look white, clean, and I feel in control of them. The only time I use anything else is when I am away from home. I do keep Polident Wipes, if I have eaten in a restaurant, for a quick touch up. I keep a tube of denture cleaner for long journeys too.
